Some info on the Evil Weevil
What a great site---Got lost there for an hour and barely scratched the surface! It's now a favorite--lol. Bill
LOL
So did I, has some great info and lots educational info on the mission to save the Broms here in Florida. (never new we had a problem, I'm from NY been here a few years )
Did you see the picture from the 90's ( i think maybe further back) of how the tree's used to be filled with brom's and today they are bare.
Not good. You know what they say..... You never know what you have until its gone. Its a real shame to loose plant life like that.
GG
P.S
I suggest that if some of you have the time look through the site.
It has some GREAT stuff!
You will learn a lot

Mellie, that is amazing!! What park here in Tampa please?? sue
Sue, that is Flatwoods Park. It's in New Tampa, on Bruce B Downs just past the Home Depot! I'm always driving by it and decided to stop one weekend. At first I was disappointed because all I saw was dozens of cyclers on the paved trail. But as I walked along in the grass, I saw a trail leading back into the woods. I only walked about 200 yards when I ran into this little creek with all the tillandsias. I also saw an orchid growing on a tree. The orchid forum folks told me it was the Florida Butterfly orchid. It wasn't in bloom, but I know where it is so I'm going to keep an eye on it. Here's a pic of another huge tillandsia I saw in the same area.
Thanks mellie, Who wouldn thunk?? i didn't think the tillandsias would grow this far north naturally...(why not? i have had mine growing on driftwood for years now?! duh...thanks for the info...I once had a butterfly orchid...i think it is called Oncidium Tampense small white with green and a pink throat if i recall..very charming....spelling is probably off...sue ps i hope no one trys to "harvest" these wonderful plants!
Sue, check out the USF plant atlas. http://www.plantatlas.usf.edu/ I love it. You can search for plants and it shows you a county-by-county map where they grow. It's helped me in choosing plants for my garden. I like natives, but some Florida natives only grow in the panhandle, some only in the Keys, and I want to make sure they're all happy here in central FL.
Thanks, Mellie, i will do that..and thanks for the link!! cooolll...sue
Interesting Thanks !
