I don't have a picture, because they're too tiny for me to get a decent picture of, but I have these on several of my plants. They're black, about a millimeter in length, a fraction of a millimeter in width, and if I'm seeing it correctly (it's so tiny, it's hard to tell), it looks like it has a very short head section, with a longer body. They look like a piece of soil, actually, until I see them moving. Any ideas?

They could be flea beetles, do they jump?
No. Someone in the Houseplants forum suggested thrips. I looked that up, and it might be that. Not sure yet, though.
Imagine taking a pencil, and drawing a very, very small line. Very small! Now imagine that line moving. Is that what it looks like? Then that is thrips. They scrape and suck the chlorophyl right out of a leaf, so that there is a tiny white area. When they do it to the edge of a leaf, it distorts the leaf when the leaf grows, because those cells have been damaged and can't grow out the leaf, leaving an indentation.
Take a leaf that they are on, and hit it on a white cloth or paper several times. Hard, so they'll fall off. Then see if they look like my description.
Yep. That describes them perfectly.
Ugh.
Good job CJ!
Aw shucks. Thanks, fly!
For control, scroll down to "thrips" - about half way down the site. http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/M1183.html
I'm currently using Safer's 3-in-1. I just got it earlier this week.
That's Neem oil. Many people swear by it. Let me know if it works for you, OK?
I don't think so. It's soap and sulfur.
My mistake. There are two formulations. The concentrate is neem oil. You have the ready-to-spray version.

Never mind.....
Well, that's interesting! I almost bought the concentrate, but wanted to see how it worked first. I didn't realize they were different! That's kind of irritating!
I'm wondering here as Thrips do jump , fly and run .
Thrips are very small (about 1/16 inch long) and slender; usually tan or dark colored. Immature thrips are white, yellow, or orange. Adults can fly, jump, or run quickly. They are difficult to see without a hand lens, though they may look like little threads on the plant.
If Thrips neem will help but will not kill all the stages.
