Below is a link you can access for info. on the Mary Lou Heard Memorial Garden Tour which will take place this spring on the weekend of May 5th and 6th.
The tour is split into two days so you can see all the gardens and is divided by North and South county.
Saturday, May 5th covers the North County Area. Sunday, May 6th covers the South County area.
The basic range of the 2 days combined is from Long Beach to San Juan Capistrano to LaVerne and points in between.
This is a wonderful tour, is self guided, and there is NO admission charge. It is a great way to see other enthusiasts' gardens, get ideas, see new plants, and enjoy the many different styles of gardens we are fortunate to be able to have here in the Southland.
The organizers are currently setting it up, so ck. out the link and reserve the date!!!
This really is a fun tour and a great way to spend the weekend.
Here's the link: www.heardsgardentour.com
I will keep this thread current with updates as they become available.

Garden Tour for Southern Calif. Gardeners
I won't be able to attend but maybe next year. It sounds wonderful!
I think it would be great if people familiar with the different areas and possible routes could recommend possible places to eat along the way....anything from cheap and fast to better and more leisurely.

J.D. Do we know when the maps or addresses will be up?

wcgypsy...not yet...We just sent in our garden descriptions and directions etc. By April we should know.
I'm sure it will be on their website (above link ) when they have it all set up. I'l update the thread when I know more.
HI Mike,
the guy should be done with cleaning the plaster by tomorrow. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
Sherry, did you know that Mike and I are both on this garden tour this year? It is something we have both been wanting to do for a while, and this year they were asking for more new gardens to tour. We both have a lot of work ahead of us for the next few months.
Donna
ps, Hi Arlene...didn't realize you were going to be here again so soon. Hope you enjoy this wonderful warm weather this weekend. We are going up to Oxnard tomorrow for a 65th Wedding Anniversay for some dear old friends...should be a nice trip.

Donna, Yes...I knew Mike was on the tour and when you mentioned "your garden tour" in May, I figured you were on it also. I think I'm going to try to make it. Always up there anyway. Went to Roger's and Brita's today, just to poke around on a nice day. Roger's has some nice new displays, but it's annoying because whereas before I knew just where their salvias were (all together so you can find what you're looking for quickly), now they have nice looking displays there and when I asked where they'd put the salvias, she said what salvias they did have are "mixed in here and there in the displays"..I said that's dumb, she said, "I know". Why are the people who don't have a clue usually the ones making all the decisions?
it's called promoting to the limits of your ability. LOL
ed to add sorry to hear this. Rogers is one of the places 'Spin and I check for salvias.

Hi Blooms,
yes, whenever we go through the area I stop and check, never know what they might have. It's just one of my peeves that you should be able to find what you're looking for in a nursery without having to go on a scavenger hunt. I occasionally find another salvia at Anderson's La Costa, but too many of their plants are also in no particular order and you have to look at everything. We went by there day before yesterday and I didn't stop because I knew I would get annoyed over having to search everywhere to be sure I didn't miss something. Perhaps there's a certain logic to that, it just doesn't work for me. Roger's had a lot of nice new succulents plantings in "stone/cement" troughs and some other mixed plantings in pots that were striking. Maybe they sell more that way, in impulse buying...I just wanted salvia.
"promoting to the limits of your ability"..lol....is that similar to the "peter principle"?
This sounds fabulous. I will bring my Mom. I am marking it on my calendar. Thanks for the post.

I am looking forward to the RU and I have a big thing coming , my Grandma`s funeral in May in Ohio so I would love to tenitively do this as long as i am not in Ohio. Anyone interested in doing this together in a small group of us? I have not checked out the site yet because The Nascar Race is going to get started and i am getting stuff done before, but I will.
