Need Lily ID

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Poland, ME

Well, it's an Oriental. I can tell by the spots.

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

I don't know, but I sure like it!!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Is the lily shown from a bouquet of cut flowers you purchased? If so, its probably a Stargazer; they're the most popular cut Oriental lily. The color of the cut Stargazers is often less intense than in the garden.

Lisa,
Andrew gave you a bunch of great places to buy lilies, a lot of them have varieties you won't find just anywhere.
Buggy Crazy , B & D Lilies & The Lily Garden are three places that grow their own lilies (ie. don't import to sell to you, like most) too.
Faraway Flowers offers some very unique varieties many that you can't find anywhere else. I placed an order on Feb 1st so that I could be included in the free bonuses. I am very excited (as I always am about lily bulbs) to evaluate some of these Japanese Hybrids.
So, if you are looking for the unique, Andrew's selections for you I will second. All of the above are outstanding companies, with exceptional customer service, IMHO. Can you tell I love lily shopping?
Lisa, You'll have to let us know what you end up selecting and how they grow for you.

Or.... an easy way to get started, and fairly inexpensive, is to pick up some potted lilies at a local garden center. Heck, I've gotten some pretty good ones at a nice hardware store. You can also recycle Easter lilies.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

I agree with Moby about shopping locally. Stargazer is a very popular lily and most of the big, local nurseries carry them already potted. If after that you decide you simply must have more, then you can delve into the world of on-line bulb buying. All plants can become addicting, but for me, especially so lilies. Before you know it, your fridge is filled with bulbs and bulblets and your family is forced to eat warm apples because they can't be stored with lilies and for that matter, forced to eat out, as there is little room for food in the fridge. My dream is to have a second fridge and just as soon as I have a few hundred dollars, I plan to get one. Unfortuantely, it seems I'm always forced to choose between money for plants or money for things like new appliances and the plants win every time!

Can't wait for the Easter Lilies! Very soon now......

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Beak, you are right. The plants win out every time. We have several wonderful local nurseries that I frequent. Those blooming lilies are just too tough to pass up, especially when yours are heading out of season and they have blooming beauties.

Speaking of easter lilies, again How hardy are they?

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

They should be hardy in zone 5. I think I could grow them here if sheltered and well mulched.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wish I could send you a fridge, beaker. We had 3 at the old house (1 came along) and the new house has 3. Have you looked in the want-ads for a 'garage/beer fridge'? Bet you could find a cheap one second-hand.

Columbia Heights, MN(Zone 4a)

Well, I am thinking cheap. It's still money that I need to choose how it is spent. Big sigh.....so many plants, so few dollars....

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

Remember refrigerators are the biggest user of electricity, next to a water heater (if you have an electric one). If you get a really old frig, it might be a energy hog.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

The little dorm fridges are cheap and don't suck much juice. Going out on campus moving day is a great way to score an inexpensive one, if'n your near a university. Just an idear'.
