Neil Diamond's Bernheim visit
When can we expect the podcast of your rendition, VV?
What is the one in the "7:00 PM" post?
- Brent
I'll add in identity edits above.
The Double Album will be released in spring.
Yea, that's what they look like here.........uh huh......exactly......
That Chief Paduke is magnificent
I love the Maryland dwarf....you have to give them the room!.....Satyr Hill is right here is Baltimore...Bill Kuhl Maclean Nursery.
Where it began
I can't begin to knowin
but then I know its growin strong
So VV might really stand for Velvet Voice?
I had the pleasure in 2001 of meeting Bill Kuhl, gentleman, plantsman, and landscape architect. Someday, I'd like to get to visit MacLean Nursery.
I have 'Satyr Hill' in the yard, recovering from the 2003 ice storm. 'MD' and 'Chief Paduke' are on the future acquisition list.
And I'm glad there's a healthy Crooner Appreciation Club out there; Sweet Caroline indeed.
I've been known to croon a little myself, but only after a bottle of Crackling Rose.
Where is "Chief Paduke" to be found commercially?
Scott
To start with, the best grower in OH (though this is wholesale only) is probably Holly Ridge Nursery, Geneva, OH.
Next, I know a couple very small local growers that produce liners or small pots of American holly. If you are after field-grown specimens, then ask at the liner producer level to see who their customers are.
How far is Holly Ridge from you Scott?
It's in Geneva, which is literally just about as far away from me as you can get and still be in Ohio. It's probably closer to you than it is to me. It's way up in the far Northeast corner of the state, almost in PA, and definitely in the land of lake effect snow.
Scott
Well, if it's that far, then a hop over to Pride Nursery in PA is in order as well!
Maybe the Hollies should surrounded by this:

gram ~ a girl:
Thank you, and I can't wait for it to get just a little warmer and sunnier so I can go back and take some more shots of the superlative Ilex opaca collection at Bernheim (over 200 different clones among the specimens).
My daughters and I are planning a Spring trip to Louisville. Do they also have a hosta collection now?
Hi BGmom:
Bernheim is best known for its extensive woody ornamental plants collection, and the 14,000 acre research forest/natural area. It has broadened its current emphasis to focus more on native species and plant communities. Non-indigenous ornamental perennials are not well-represented. I invite interested parties to peruse their website: http://www.bernheim.org/
I think your daughters and you will find many things to see/do at Bernheim, but a hosta collection might not be among them. Hope you enjoy the trip (and I'd be happy to expound on other Louisville attractions).
Sorry, forgot the area conversion factors:
14,000 acre = 5666 hectare; 5666 bunder; 944 bovate; 944 oxgang; 271 million cubitē
