I am having a difficult time id'ing this butterfly. The picture was taken at the Key West Butterfly Conservatory. The colors are true.
Any help or guidance family idea's, shape idea's, ect would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Art
CLOSED: Butterfly ID please
It looks to me like something in the Subfamily Limenitidinae, maybe genus Limenitis, but I can't find it, though. Since it was at a Conservatory, it could be from anywhere.
claypa, Thanks for the suggestion. I have not found it yet, but I will keep trying. About the second Wednesday of February our local NABA chapter has it's monthly meeting. I will bring along a picture and see if they can help out.

It may be a Common Indian Crow, Euploe core.
No, more like this one, a female Common Eggfly

Alright, fly girl!
It looks like the female on this page:

Yes, she sure does! Whew, that one was a hard one, for being common I had a heck of a time finding it!
Artcons, whatever it is you should put it in the BugFiles, I didn't see one like it.
Hi Everyone,
Great job with the id. You nailed it with the female common eggfly.
Thanks for all of your efforts.
I have a few other unusual butterfly pictures I have taken at Key West and Butterfly World and also in my yard on display at my site on PBase if you are interested in looking at them. Here is the link.

Thanks again,

great pics Art. I have been to Butterfly World in Coconut Beach?? east of Davie/Miami
Donna,
The next time you visit So Florida, see if you can schedule a trip to Key West. The Butterfly Conservatory there is first rate. It's much smaller than Butterfly World, but it's totally indoors. A large, very high, multi domed glass ceiling and air conditioning make it ideal for good viewing of butterflies and the filtered light make it great for picture taking. It's also much cheaper than BW.
They also have a huge section where you can see live, all stage, development of butterflies. They do this at BW also, but the section at BW is not as large as it is in Key West.
Thanks Everyone for the id's.

Art, you have some great photos there! The Polka Dot and Rattle Box moths were very unusual.
It would be great to have those cat and chrysalid pics in the BugFiles, they were outstanding.
Thanks for sharing.
Fly girl,
I had forgotten about the bug files. Glad you reminded me of them. I will post some pictures there soon.
Thanks again,
Art
I am hoping to get to the Keys one day. Here is a link to my pics I took at BW. This is album one. There is a 2nd album if you look at the links on the side of the page

Donna, I visited your album site. Great variety of bird & butterfly pictures. If you all have not visited this on line album, I strongly recommend doing so.
Nicely done!
Art
They are both great !
DonnaB, I noticed that you have a picture of the 'Common Eggfly' butterfly, the butterfly that artcons posted on this thread. In album one, it's the last picture on page three.
