I just checked and probably shouldn't have done it. We have one high in the forecast and that's for 32 but most are around 20 with negatives of 10 for the lows.
Must go back to rose, dahlia and daylily catalogs right away!
Wow, I just looked outside, and it is near whiteout conditions for us...winds are 40 mph, and it is snowing at a good clip. I can't see across the street. Wind chill is -2, we are under a winter storm warning (snow) until 10 tonight, and wind chill advisory until 10 am Monday. I sure hope it doesn't turn out too bad for you guys.
Jackie
Stay warm!
Thanks!
Hey, Jackie! It's the same by the airport. The same all over the area. I'd hate to be driving. Can't drive if you can't see!
I got this....

I don't have to leave the house until at least Tues., I work from home on Mondays. I won't even go out for the mail if it's too bad.
Anita - is this your way of cheering us up? :-)
We're going out to dinner tonight. It's our favorite night because the restaurants that are normally crowded are half filled at best due to some big sports game being played. I think it will be the Derringers vs. the Teddy Bears. I don't follow sports - maybe you can tell!
Hiya Nap, no new snow today, only wicked cold. We've got wind chills at -18 right now.
Stay warm everybody!!
Gram, Bebe's friend,etc.,
I heard that south of Buffalo is expected to get 4 to 6 feet of snow in the next week!!!
Dave - we have to write a letter of complaint again!
I can't envision that much snow. I hope, if it happens, everyone retains heat and electricity.
That's right Pirl. If our petition to have February removed from the calendar was approved, we wouldn't be dealing with this!
South of Buffalo is a very good place for all that snow! It's Ski Country! They like lots of snow. I was out quite a bit today. It was a perfect kind of day for acquiring frostbite.
This arctic cold and wind is no biggie with me - I'm not leaving the house! However, now I'm worried about my rhododendrons. The early winter was so warm, I neglected to put up burlap around them. ...sigh... Hope they'll be okay.
Harper
They should be. Do they get the north wind?
Uh... they're on the north and west side of the house.
If they've been in place for a few years I still don't think you'll lose them. Let's hope I'm right.
Dave, there certainly could be places south of Buffalo that get that much. Depends on where the snow belts settle. My sister lives south of the city (Forestville, for Jackie & Nancy)
They're probably well rooted in and do have the escaping heat from the house and the steps to help them. I really wouldn't worry.
Harper, those are beautiful! I hope they make ok....they do look good and healthy!!
They are pretty Harper.
Harper, I have to ask...what does your name mean...that is you DG name.. sofonisba?
I was thinking the same thing earlier....curious minds want to know.
Harper (I'm curious about your DG name, too) I'd suggest you go online, to the Garden Hotline. The host is Ralph Snodsmith who is on radio Sunday morning from 8 to 10 on WOR down here, not sure about which station near you. You can email him, through the site, but be sure to include your zone and tell him the Rhododendrons are planted 15' from the house, in the middle of the lawn, and ask what you can do to protect them now. He's very sweet and he has over 5,000 Rhododendrons and lives in NY, zone 5. He will be able to help - just give him a few days to respond.
Remember the zone and be sure to sign it with your name.
'Sofonisba', my DG name is after Sofonisba Anguissola, a woman painter from the 16th century.
http://www.lifeinitaly.com/art/women-artist.asp
I went to art school, so she was an inspiration to me.
'Harper' is my birth name. My parents had a friend with the last name 'Harper' and they liked the name and gave it to me as my first. My sisters are named 'Summer' and 'Winton'. All I can say about that is that it was the 60's.... LOL
Thanks for the info pirl. I will check out R. Snodsmith's site and email him. That's brilliant info! Thank you!! I'm very familiar with WOR... grew up listening to it every morning.
Harper
Very interesting story about your DG name. I think Harper is a lovely first name - not so for Apple.
Ralph is always a gentleman and loves his Rhodies so I'm sure he'll be of help to you.
thanks pirl. Who's Apple? what about Moon Unit? LOL!!
Harper
Isn't Apple the child of some famous Hollywood couple? Who's Moon Unit?
Moon Unit is Frank Zappa's daughter. Moon Unit Zappa. That's the most bizarre name I could think of. He has a son with a weird name too, but I can't think of it.
Harper
I guess the days of Tom, Jack, Ed, and Jim are over.
Nuh, uh. Bite your tongue. I like those names.
Frank Zappa was being weird. I think only men understand him. I don't. His other kids' names are: Dweezel, Ahmet and Diva. I thought being a 'Harper' was difficult as a kid. Can you imagine being a 'Dweezel'?? Ha!!!

Especially if the kid is some kind of nerd.
Hey I saw Frank Zappa in concert, I can't say that about a lot of people. He pretty much lived his life his way and died too young.
Apple is Gweneth Paltrow's kid I think?
Yes, he did! He died of cancer, right? I can't stand his music, but I recognize there's intelligent thought in it.... just don't like listening to it. My DH has every album ever made of his - and recorded concert... ugh.
yes, brain cancer. Whoa - you're DH is in deep ;) Tell him to crank up "Thing Fish' for you.LOL
I will do no such thing! He tries to get me into Zappa. I listen. I hear. I hear music orchestrated with brilliance... but... eh. That juvenile boyish humor usually makes me laugh (like the Simpsons). Just not with Frank Zappa. Sorry fellas!
I've never heard any of his music...I've never had much of an interest either. The eccentricity was enough to keep me away.
