Bird cam with slave flash.

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I set up to take a few pics at maximum telephoto, about 450mm equivalent. Since the light is rarely very good, I have started using a fill flash on most pics. However, the distance of about 50 feet rendered the camera's flash useless. I dug out my old hot shoe flash and my slave unit, set them up at about 8 feet from the scratch grain I had placed at the target area.
It seems to work very well when placed to prevent flash shadows from showing.

Wow, Trois! Wish I knew what you were talking about when it comes to the flashes, etc., but what the hey - the photos say it all!!!

The slave flash sees the camera flash and fires. Just a way of extending the flash range.

Good explanation - even I understood what you were saying!

It is simple, but requires some care setting up. It should be in line with the camera in order to avoid double shadows. I haven't used it for at least 10 years.

Nice pics trois!! Your outside while doing this?

No, still using the security camera for viewing. Camera is on the porch. I take it from inside.
