I set up to take a few pics at maximum telephoto, about 450mm equivalent. Since the light is rarely very good, I have started using a fill flash on most pics. However, the distance of about 50 feet rendered the camera's flash useless. I dug out my old hot shoe flash and my slave unit, set them up at about 8 feet from the scratch grain I had placed at the target area.
It seems to work very well when placed to prevent flash shadows from showing.
