Oh cool, I love the Wrens, they have such attitude! I just heard of someone that says they feed them by hand.
Great pic deb!!

Nice photo. They are basically non-existent here in the East. The attached link and accompanying chart clearly reflect this significant change in their range.

Thanks Linth,
For the article too... I had been watching this wren from farther away. It never looked so much like the Carolina or the House variety. Confirmed it with Maureen at WBC as a Bewick's.

Seems many of us here are conserving this sleek little Wren. My fellow/brother birdwatcher in Arlington TX says he sees them a lot over there too. He hears their song first, then he looks for them. Now I have been trained to do the same with several of our SW bird species.

Very special little bird...

Maybe my wren is a Bewick too. I just assumed it was a Carolina, can you tell?

Great photos - and what a darling little bird!

Aren't they the cutest!
Deb, I have decided that my pic is the Carolina. The tail is shorter and thinner, and the breast is a darker buff color than the Bewick and the House Wren doesn't have the white eye mark. Now I am going to watch for the Bewick since they are around here. Do you have the Carolina's too, or are the Bewick's territorial?

Great pics Debnes and Sheila!

Those Wrens are so adorable and sweet!

Thanks for sharing also!

They sure are cute ! Accoringing to my book (rather old) I'm suppose to have the Bewick in my area, but haven't seen one yet.

Yep, Debnes' is Bewick's, while Sheila's is Carolina

Thanks Resin! I haven't ever seen a Bewick, but hadn't really considered that we had anything but the Carolina. Will be watching now.

We saw our first Titmouse today. He didn't stick around long. We were out in the yard when he came up. DH managed to get this pic.

Oh, I forgot that the DH also got a great picture of the Kinglet with his Ruby Red Crown showing!

Your DH does good!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, he does a great job. He could have already retired from work, but is staying on until I can retire next year. I keep encouraging him to go ahead and quit so he can find himself a hobby and his niche. I don't want what I want to do to keep him from venturing out into other things, but I hope he would get into photography more. (Shhh!)

Thanks everybody!
Yes Sheila I have seen Carolina Wren here, but this wee thing is a resident now. I see it every day. Your pictures are good, expecially to tell the difference for people who have both kinds. Bewick's, even when I first saw it, I could tell it was a different Wren. Bewicks is slimmer form darker brown, with white/gray tummy, beak is pointy.. Carolina is rounder, and redish-brown color on top and edges, with honey color tummy, beak is wider. Both cute as the dickens!
It is very interresting how their (the Bewick's) habitat has shifted. Yes sad about their disappearance in the east too!

Thanks for confirm Resin!

Opps, I forgot this was the Wren thread! I was thinking I was on the feeders thread when I posted the "outcasts"!! LOL!

Good pic Debnes, that one is definately a keeper! It is very cute!

Im glad you posted that kinglet pic Sheila.. It is a great pic! Hard to catch them with the red crown showing. Maybe I will get a pic of one with red, before they go back north.
