Gras the first thing Ben said when he saw your perching Eagle up there was, "that's a Golden Eagle!" (for what it's worth)..

A pair of Bald Eagles, perched on grounded ice flows, waiting for high tide. Notice both Eagle are facing the same direction. They are facing into the wind, which was blowing about 35 mph at the time. Turnagain Arm, Alaska. 2/1/2007

Nice pic Gras!

A Bald Eagle, perched on ice flows grounded during low tide. Cook Inlet including Turnagain Arm have the second highest tides in the world. During extreme spring tides, the water level can change, as mush as, 30 feet between low tide, and high tide. In winter, life is hard for these Eagles. During the past two months, there were only about six hours, of twilight a day during storms. To survive they have to find something to under almost continuous adverse conditions. Wow, Gras - great photos and good info. Makes you wonder why they don't come down this way for the winter!
