CLOSED: Rainbow Swap

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

This one is for flowers the color in a rainbow. Remember your Science Class? Roy G Biv?

Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet

Since Blue and Indigo are pretty close together we'll count them as 1 leaving a total of 6 colors.

There will be 12 participants. What you will do is sign up for a color. Which means you will send 6 packets of the same seeds for whatever color you pick. There will be 2 participants for each color. You will also of course send an SASE along with your packets. Homegrown, traded or bought seeds are fine.

Red

1. blpender
2. cedarnest

Orange

1. makshi
2. Susan51

Yellow

1. Hineni
2. Heavinscent

Green

1. Allison_FL
2. Xeramtheum

Blue

1. blue_eyes
2. bluespiral

Violet

1. Illoquin
2. Windy

Sounds fun X! May I have Yellow? Can they be different seeds as long as they are in the same color group (not sure I have 6 packs of anything all of the same...LOL)?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

That will be ok if you don't have enough seeds for six packs of the same.

X

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh goodness....I didn't see that either. I don't think I have 6 packets of the same seed....but I will check. I need to read closer.

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Hey Allison,I am surprised you never chose "violet" as your color! Hee Hee

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't think black is a color in the rainbow?

Kim

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Lol ... paul is just being paul. From a radiant spectral point of view, black is the absence of all colors and white is the presance of all colors.

What you see usually comes from the light that bounces off the thing you are looking at, white light is made up of light of all colors, so what you see is only in the colors of light that are not absorbed by the thing you are observing.

Colors of light are related to their frequency and wavelength and most matter either absorbs or reflects certain specific colors. Those that do neither and allow the light to pass through them are transparent. Those that reflect all colors to your eye are white and those that absorb everything but red are seen as red, those that absorb all colors but green are seen as green, and so on... so if an object absorbs all colors and reflects no color to your eye then you see the absence of light as black.

I like different and Green has always been one of my favorite colors and Green flowers are different :)) I do love Av's with green in the flower too ! That's why I picked Green :))

(Zone 7a)

I have lots of blues - may I sign up?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi X,

In honor of the Indianapolis Colts going to the Superbowl, I wanted Blue, but it looks like that color is taken. How about if I take "Indy GO!!!!!"? I just wintersowed some lavender and violet things and have tons of seeds leftover.

Suzy

P.S. Did my container swap seeds get there yet?

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi Suzy .. didn't go to the post office today .. going tomorrow. Got your down for Violet!

(Zone 7a)

But, if for horticultural purposes, we allow "black" as a category for its value in bringing the darkest tones of red or purple to paletttes that would otherwise be - well, pale in a wimpy way - then wouldn't those those black-maroon or black-purple colors be great extensions of our rainbow? I've never actually seen those within a rainbow, but often in dark parts of nearby clouds near the rainbows pierced with gold columns of light.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

That would be good for another swap. It could be called The Dark Side of the Rainbow Swap. I'd really like to stay with the visible spectrum. The colors can be pastels or they can be strong.
