Thanks for that info. I did discover all the thorns, but it isn't anything I worry about, we have thorn trees up here that have thorns up to 8 and 10 inches long and as big around as a pinky finger. My POB were the size of a rose. So far it is ok for me.

I'd like to get some of those seeds, fauna. Never done such a trade before --what are you looking to get?
JP- where is PR? I am a newbie to the seed thing, but I understand people who want something send a self addressed stamped envelope to people who have something. My mistake was that I thought I had to have something to participate- but its not a mistake because I have something that already someone wants......... It is kind of you to want to swap, but our new Homeland Security requires seeds, etc. coming into the country to have stamps and documents and approval........its a headache and its nearly crippled my husband's business (he owns an agricultural laboratory that depends on international clients who send in thousands of samples for soil analysis, etc.) A lot of it depends on which city you are mailing into as well. Anyway.....DMail me. If you can figure out the postage you can send me a SASE envelope and I can give you a lot of seeds.
Since Puerto Rico is technically part of the US, are the rules maybe a little easier for getting things in? I've ordered plants before from a seller in PR and they didn't have any trouble getting the plants to me even though California is pretty picky about importing plants. And seeds are usually a lot less trouble.
It's still cool and the sun isn't exactly at the right angle to give it a good boost. They will be a little slow until you can get them outside and then they will take off, mine did. My biggest problem was work got in the way and I didn't get them planted out early enough or into bigger pots.
Thanks! What size pots did you put them into? They do seem quite pokey slow right now, but I did notice the stems are getting nice and green so thats a good sign! I'm not working right now so I run and look at them like every 2 seconds....and every time they're still there and look the same :)
I'll put them in the backyard this summer, next to the house, the house is brick so that should give off lots of heat for them to grow nice and fast!
Steven
My biggest one is in a pot that is about 12 inches across. I probably should put it in a bigger one this summer and I will put it on the south side of the house instead of the north side.
I heard they need LOTS of heat and sun so I'm going to try and make sure they get as much of it as possible. I hope it gets as big as yours!
By the way all three seeds have sprouted now and have leaves ready to grow! Thats something I wasn't expecting!
Steven
Ok, so I figured out that the pulcherrima that we have is what is referred to as "pink." I just called it red with white fringe, but when the blooms are viewed in the sun I can see why its called pink. So, I will be sending some seeds to Puerto Rico.....funny thing is, the original seeds from our plants came from puerto rico!!!!!
I think the Agriculture rules apply to PR and Hawaii. When you buy from a seller, they have proper documents, making it easier to ship into the country.
dale_a_gardener, don't throw your seeds away. I would love some next time you have some. I will send SASE or trade you plants.
I've noticed the red POB seeds grows the fastest and the yellow the slowest - either way they are all fantastic plants to have!
