Tried and True 'Throw and Grow' Annuals?

Saint Paul, MN(Zone 4a)

I'm a 'throw and grow' Zone 4 girl with clay soil (dry) and full sun. If you have similar conditions, what's tried and true for you? I'm just dying to find some fun new 'throw and grow' annuals I don't have yet!

Oh, and let me know if you have any seeds of your tried and true to trade-I love to trade! My 'can't live without 'em' annuals list so far includes morning glory, cosmos, cleome, zinnia, marigold, sweet pea, and sunflower.

I love the re-seeders too. I'm zone 5 ~ also with clay soil. Coreopsis lanceolata, calliopsis, catchfly (silene armera), iberis, nigella, Chinese forget-me-nots, toadflax, and Johnny-jump-ups all re-seed like crazy for me. Of course you can't forget poppies. Opium poppies, Shirley poppies, California poppies, and Prickly poppies are all throw & grow! I have lots of seeds for trading if you want to try anything.

Wentworth, SD(Zone 4a)

I love cosmos, moss roses, linaria, nigella, bachelor's buttons, mullein, and many others I can't think of right now. Most of my garden last year was throw and grow because I had a new baby and didn't have a lot of time out in my garden right away.

Ashland, OH(Zone 6a)

Are you guys saying that you just throw the seeds and they plant themselves??? I'd LOVE to be able to do that! Would that work in a tall weeded area? Or am I misunderstanding what "throw and grow" means?

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

My throw and grow is on bare, usually dampened ground-Sweet Annie, larkspur, peony poppy, johnny jump-ups,allium(the 14" tall ones)bleeding heart---actually some throw themselves-saves me the work!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm a great fan of hardies as well. AuntyB, I usually weed first, in the spring. Some, like nasturtiums, get planted in a normal way. But there's a lot that I can just throw.
What did I have last year? Nasturtiums, as I've just said. Sunflowers, calendula, nigella, opium poppies, candytuft, poached eggs, cosmos, lavatera, honesty, foxgloves, stock, godetia, clarkia, tagetes - about it I think.
I'm from the north of England so the occasional plant may be different from yours. The wind's howling round today, looking forward to spring!!

Thanks for the great ideas, everybody!

Marcia, I'd been eyeing Sweet Annie in the Park's catalog, so now that I know it's a throw and grow I have to have it!

Notherner, I am tempted to relo to England just so I can have the pleasure of growing foxgloves successfully-they abhore me! Pains my heart-so beautiful, and I can't seem to get them to grow!

Aunty B, my throw and grow are all on cleared garden soil, some on top of the soil and some lightly covered (sunflower, nasturium, sweet pea, etc), but all grow like they don't need the help of a gardener. Perfect for a no care gal like me!

Thanks so much to all of you for all the great ideas-think spring!

Clarksville, TN(Zone 6b)

bonnierh, I lived in Roseville throughout my childhood! Anyway, I'm wondering what would be good seeds for my sis in
MN to scatter in the field/by the railroad tracks behind her home. She won't be clearing the ground so is there anything she can just throw back there and have it survive to flower so she'll have some color there all spring/summer/fall?
