Spring Trade???
I'm new to DG since the beginning of October, so I've not been here for a Spring Trade. How does it work? I've made about a dozen trades since joining, but what is the Spring Trade? And, what board are you referring to? The plant/seed trading forum? I don't have any really fancy AV's like a lot of folks here, but I'm getting there! LOL.

I have only been in one, but everyone who wanted to be in it dmailed the designated person, then she chose names and dmailed you the person you were to send to. Then there was a thread to post a wish list and the person who had your name started growing/buying some of those plants. Kind of like a secret santa thing. It was a lot of work for the organizer, I'm sure. Anyway, I enjoyed it....
Sure sounds like fun .... I hope someone organizes something like that again this spring ... I sure would love to join in!
Well, I got to thinking, with the bingo going on, the trade may be too much, but it would be fun. : )
Could be everyone is waiting for Spring and warmer weather to think of trades! I can't complain .... we've been having a very mild winter. Temp's the past few weeks @ 79-80 during the day and mid to high 60's at night. Apparently there's a cold front heading south even into Florida next week and we are supposed to have our coldest weather in a long time ... night time temps in the 30's! I will be dragging a lot of plants inside and covering a lot of my plants in the ground!
Stay warm! : 0 I would offer to organize a spring trade, but I am not sure I can handle it right now. Maybe we will do a fall trade.
Well last year Jill and Lorry each organize one.
I think Jill did around Nov and dec 1 st was cut off oh yes it was Nov/Dec 2005 then she gave us our secret trade partner . And we did the trade end of April first of May and this way we had time to get ready !

Oh, I really LOVE the idea of a "Secret Trade" .... do you let the person know who the trade is from when you send them, or is it kept a secret forever?
No, you let them know when you send the package. How about the rest of us? Would a spring trade be possible, or would planning for fall be better?
I would love to do this, but of course have to wait and make sure I got all the mites taken care of.
Anytime is fine with me .... even NOW! LOL.

Are you talking about a trade with just leaves, or whole plants? I like the idea of a little "Gardening Gift" as a bit of a surprise too! Great Idea Allison!
Lin, last year we traded a few plants, and several sets of leaves. Getting ready for a plant trade takes a while if you want to supply specific plants off someone's wish list.
Ok, I forgot about the wish list! I guess it would take awhile if you are trying to find certain plants from someone's list.
I will be waiting for all the exact details of this spring trade. Sounds like it would be a lot of fun!

I've done a few years of several secret leaf sawps ! They were all secret no wish list and I love secrets surprises. We use to have big leaf sawps. Liek you could sign up for five sets, 10 sets or 15 or more sets.
Few ideas and special things needs to pre-pare for secret swap :))
With us here we could just stay at five sets.
1. Try to stay with names sets if you can
a. Or say Noid and describ it or look like
b. Each set is two of more leaves
2. It could be for five sets.
a. You can send more if you want
b You can send Steptocarpus , or Epsicas stolons, or Chirta leafs too
But a total of 5. Large leaves like Strpe's, Chritas only one leaf needed will = a " Set"
3. Everyone that wants to be in the Secret trade signes up
4. Pam the Cordintaer will take the names and secretly by Dmail match each person up with address.
She will also tell us what days to ship.
Like say Ship the first week of May either Monday-Wednesday, Saturday Ok .
Prioeity boxes must be used and proper shipping methods.
All leaves must be cut fresh no old or damaged or bbruised leaves.
Ship only waht you would want to get.
Water your plants 2-3 days before cutting. Giving your plants a bath if a plus too and greatly appreciated in trades
Send only your best.
Use zip lock bags one for each leaf set.
Lable each bag.
Use some type of cushing in box you don't want anything to move around or get damage.
Pam will need to make sure everyone will be home, if a neighbor can get box if not, if it should be marked pick-up at post office as boxes left out in Sun, Cold, Rain or stuffed in mail boxes do not do well.
Then add a small Garden gift that can fit into box easy without damge leaves, Like Flower stickers, Journal, not much $$ few bucks .
Write your name in the box.
When we get our boxes please post that you did get it and what you got :))
Last Sawps Del. Confirmation was required which we sent numbers to Jill who was doing sawp.

OOPS I just read Pam does not know if she can organise a Spring trade right now ???
It's pretty easy no ones ships the orgainiser anything like in seeds swaps.
I don't think it will be too much with Bingo hopefuly Bingos will go on 12 months of the year and different people do and play Bingo .
If Pam can't do Spring is there another organizer ?
I will do it if no one else can as long as we can have six - ten plus people join in !

I'm defintely in -- only if you think my av's leaves will be "safe" to send. I've thrown out all the a/v's that were on the mite infected trays and am keeping a close eye on them.
As a precaution, I could clean the leaves (directions will be needed please). I've gotten 3 new mini's from Rob's so I know for sure they were not contaminated.
If Pam can't do it, I will be happy to do it. (just will need instructions).

I would love to trade but all mine are no names. Not really mine but my mother is 94 and loves her Violets. She wants something different from what she has. If I post pictures and mybe can qualify for some trades. Ted

Note ALL Leaves, Plants, Stolns you get from anyone Seller or friend please isolate....
Leaves are easier as they can be washed and treadted if needed.
What I like to do is give mt plants normal baths, I use hot to warm water with something like Dawn soap, or dawn and neem mix, or Murphy oil soap with drops of blue dawn mixed in.
Just a gently bath .
Even if you just want to bath in warm I like warmer than warm water a few days before cutting leaves , and water so leaves will be fresh for travel and clean is good too.
You can send Streptocarpus leaves and Chritias leaves these are large so only one needed.
Stolons good too.
Five each should be a great number if you want extra up to you.

And, do I have the directions correct?:
The host of the swap will D-Mail each of us a name & address of who we are to send our package to.
Leaves only, 5 zip lok bags with 2 leaves per bag. Or, more if we want? Label each bag with the name of the plant, or write Noid on the bag if we don't know. And, include a small Gardening type gift, (seeds, hand trowel, gloves, hand soap, lotion, note cards etc)? And, most important, include a note inside the box with our name and send it Priority Mail?
I don't mean to sound like a dumb blonde, but I do have my moments! So, please forgive me for having to ask all these questions! I just need to get it straight in my head so I do it right!

Lin, I think I am the host. : ) We need at least one more for the swap if I am not to trade. If I trade, then, obviously, I know who will send me my leaves. I would also be glad to trade. I will send out an invitation thread with a title that gets attention and give it about two more days to see how many we get. Along with that post, I will post the general guidelines, so folks know if they want to trade. Does that sound like a plan? Then I will need everyone to dmail me their mailing address, and I will dmail everyone individually with their person's info.
