inhabitants of new herb garden

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm planning a new herb garden for spring and just found these guys who want to live there. So the official name of the garden will have to be the '100 Acre Herb Garden'. for those of you who are not familiar with them, this is Winnie-the-Pooh and Eeyore from the children's books in Disney form, whom I dearly love and was delighted to find as outdoor ornaments. they are resin with a terra cotta look which is exactly what I wanted.

How cute and appropriate. Yesterday was Winnie the Poos' birthday. : )

Ah, pod, I didn't know. and he chose to come to MY house on his b'day. I feel special, indeed. :0) thanks for the info!

Tell us what herbs are going to join these guys. Do you have any new ones to try, any of your old standbys or favorites?

Growing in the house right now, trying to make it thru the winter, I have chocolate mint, pineapple mint, lavender mint, Hopley's purple oregano, Showy pink oregano, curly parsley (3 plants), sweet basil, chives, rose hyssop, lemon balm, marjoram, common oregano, garden sage. I have already planted out rosemary 'Arp' (just to see if I could get it to overwinter', lavender 'Lacy Frills' (white) and tri-color sage, that I will transplant if they do make it thru til spring. I am wintersowing 4 kinds of basil (Minette, Magical Michael, Red Rubin, Thai Siam Queen), dill, fennel (bronze & Florence), triple-curl parsley, nasturtiums. I don't know yet what else. definitely garlic in the fall. I have several other lavenders and tons of creeping thymes growing in other places, and some violas (I include edible flowers in the herbs). I haven't had an herb garden in a while, and I'll have a lot more room here after I get it going, so there's lots of possibilities.

If you haven't seen it, here is the design for the heart of the 'Hundred Acre Herb Garden'. The heart is made with graduated heights of chimney flue liners.

Oh boy! We can't wait to take a stroll thru it! I am impressed at the wide variety of unusual plants you have already accumulated.
You (and Brigidlily) will give us many an enjoyable tour in the season ahead. Always fun to look forward to spring isn't it... pod

gotta do something to get thru the winter ;0) plus hazzard's nursery had a 40% off sale at the end of the season!

at least brigidlily has something we can actually look at. mine is all in the computer (and in my head LOL) at this point. all I really have is a yard full of grass, a table full of little pots of herbs (and Pooh and Eeyore, of course). oh, and a pile of chimney flue liners. as many as I could fit in my huge trunk. but I need more of them.

Sounds like you are halfway there... I'm impressed!

Well, I missed Pooh's birthday! I feel all sad, but I'll go home and have some honey and get over it.

I couldn't wait. I planted 23 different seeds yesterday, tomato seeds last week, and I have two "jiffy-7" 72-pot flats to plant this afternoon. I'm trying golden berry this year and REALLY hope that works. Five varieties of echinacea, and the usual culinary herbs and I got Horizon Herbs's medicinal herbs collection. My Texas Herbs book includes almost all of them, so here's hoping.

Anybody need any herb seeds? Name them; I might have them. You get SO many in a packet and I'm not dedicating large areas to any of them.

And it warmed my heart that y'all are looking forward to my progress! I have inhabitants of the concrete variety in each section of the garden. I hope they're happy there. If I could find a Pooh, I'd put them in the raised bed I've set aside for my granddaughter. I'll keep an eye out for them. They're adorable!

brigid, I got them on sale 50% off at disneystore.com

they still have both of them, and also tigger and piglet, there's another pooh with a gazing ball, but he's priced higher.

Oh, we have a disney store right here, and my sister is visiting and she wanted to go, so there you are! Excellent! I'll find it online if they don't have it.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

they probably don't have it in the store. most of that stuff is online only. but it's fun to go the store anyway.
they've got a promotion going right now thru 1/24, 20% off online, code is SPRING
I think it's good on sale items

they also have a free shipping promo, but you have to spend more than $80, code is SHIP80

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks! I love free shipping. ;)

brigidlily - I am completely in awe of your new herb garden in the other thread. I planted a small herb garden last season and I did well, despite the whiteflies. You mentioned you might have spare seeds. Do you still have spares?

grampapa - I am a huge Pooh fan since childhood. Those figures are adorable!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

thanks, bsulli42. I was thinking about going back and getting Piglet and Tigger, but decided not to. DH said they reminded him of us. He's like Eeyore, kind of pessimistic and a little gloomy sometimes. I'm Pooh, the eternal optimist...all I need is a jar of honey (or a new plant) to make me happy ;0)

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Honey and plants... a lady after my heart! Pooh it is! : ))

grampapa,
I love your design and am very curious as to what software you used to create the design. I could really use such software.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi! I have 3D Home Landscape Designer which I got as part of 3D Home Architect Design Suite Deluxe 6 from Broderbund. Here's a link to the Landscape software by itself. I don't think they support it any more, but there's no reason it shouldn't work. It has some drawbacks (I think the plants are somewhat limited), but it is the best I've found without spending $300+ for a professional landscaping package.
