Here's the macro-close-up of the blooms.
Cute! No?
Red-winged Blackbirds
Great pics of the RWBB, we get them here in the spring and summer but I've never seen any at the feeders.
Gitagal, I love it, but I would never have that kind of patience . . . unfortunately, I'm an instant gratification kind of person!
Quite an accomplishment Gita... When it's something you really love waiting can make it even more grand to you! I have a few plants I would go the extra mile for.
Does Wintersweet Bush have a fragrance?
Debnes I love all of your pics!!. What kind of food is there in the second dish, far behind the first one??
Linth this is a great picture of one handsome bird and just perfect angle! Wow !! :)
BC, Not sure what dish you meant in which pic..
I put out a Songbird Mix (sunflower seeds millet, corn..), Patio Mix (sunflower hearts, white millet hearts and crushed peanuts), and whole raw Peanuts..
I also put out a sunflower bowl of mealies...and I burried a bowl of dirt where the top is level with the ground, and I put earth worms in there. Mocker likes both. Robin likes earthworms and mealies too.
I hang Insect suet for Kinglet, and Starlings sometimes steal bites lol. Warbler takes a nibble sometimes but she prefers mealies and hummie water.
Also hanging from tree is a tray that I put dried cherries on, yesterday they really scarfed on the cherries.
In the very back corner I put a tray of songbird with Niger for Cardinals and other Finches.
:-S
Debness,
Oh, yes! It is very fragrant, that is why it is called "Wintersweet". It does not radiate its bewitching aroma too far (like Brugs would), but if you stick your nose into one of those flowers, the smell is heavenly. Other than this, there is NOTHING exciting about this buch. It is fairly root-invasive and surface. The leaves are very coarse, It is kind of vase-shaped and sends out a lot of branches from the bottom. I only have it b/c it was given to me by a friend who grew it from seed and is long-dead. I keep it in his memory.
