As I passed by a hedge in our huge office campus, I noticed this cream beauty. Wonder which is this one. And to top it, an insect goes in to search!
Saw this one on a hedge
Hi Dinu - That one is Ipomoea obscura...
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/51174/
some are reported to be sweetly scented...maybe you can check the scent without getting a green bee on your nose(!)...
TTY,...
Ron
What a beautiful flower! Thanks for sharing. I'll be interested in learning it's identification as well. - Arlan
Will put a little board "no entry for bees" on my nose and go with it close to the beauty. And let you know after I do that. Obscura? What is it obscuring, Ron?
Apparently it was an 'obscure' plant at the time it was named, but thanks to modern networking it's features are more widely known and appreciated...
When was it first named? Any idea by any chance?
Dinu - Ipomoea obscura was named in the 1st entry below, but I don't have access to the exact date at the moment, but it was previous to the 2nd publication...
1) Ipomoea obscura Hassk.
Bot. Reg. t. 239.
2)Ipomoea obscura ( L. ) Ker Gawl.
The Botanical Register 3 1817
Pl. Jav. Rar. 519.
3) Ipomoea obscura Guill.
Ann. Sc. Nat. Ser. II. vii. (1837) 244.
Hope that helps...
Ron
Thanks Ron for the research. I hope it is helping you as well.
