Welcome bird watchers, and lurkers, lol.
A lot of bird drama has taken place here lately, or maybe it is only me witnessing it... I believe these kind of antics have taken place on a regular basis...
However ***Peanuts*** are another thing entirely.
I am about to post 12 Photos I took this morning from my back yard. So bear with me por favor. :->
Here they begin.. White-winged Dove and Blue Jay. It's a face off. Who will win?
Snow and Feathers...A Face Off
And Jay calls his mate to share, you could hear their calls well in a dull echo over the snow..
Here is the Cornell site sound of the Blue Jay.. Sure you all know it well, of course!

Who won??
The Dove?... She doesn't actually go for Peanuts unless they are shelled... She was only there to encourage the Blue Jay by having him think she does...hehe.
Turns out, everybody won,
and while all that drama was taking place.. OC Warbler got the worms, LOL!!

Debnes,
Great photos and running commentary!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Aw Marilyn, You are just like that dove, very encouraging!!
Thank you!
I guess these that live here are hardy hardy... They stay year round. My next door neighbor uses Safflower, and I use a mix with some in there also. That was really funny watching it though.. She was just pretending to want peanuts, lol. She had already had her fill of the mix by that time.
The Jays found the Peanuts as soon as I put them out yesterday.. It was sunny and I got a bit better shots of them.
Deb,
I don't put out peanuts in the shell anymore and try not to have whole corn put out. You just might find yourself digging up peanuts in the shell in your flower beds and whole corn seedlings. Last year, I kept digging those things up in my flower beds that were dug in by the birds and/or squirrels.
Now, I just put out unshelled peanuts and cracked corn. Just wanted to give you a FYI.
Marilyn
Can the wild birds get that same disease from peanuts in the shell as Parrots do? Darn I can't remember the name. I think it has something to do with mold spores or something on the shells that get into their lungs.(?)
My brain just isn't retaining things the way it used to,lol. As soon as I heard about it I never gave my parrot peanuts again as treats and of course no sunflower seeds.
Nice pics guys! Sorry didn't mean to change the subject.
Deb, that is one of the best series of pics I've seen - and you got so many "action" shots with them flying, etc. Nice job!!!!! The commentary has me smiling big time!
pelletory - That's aflatoxin poisoning. Must be very careful to buy clean, dry peanuts that have been stored properly, so that the fungus cannot develop on them.
Great shots of the birds, Deb, and I loved the little drama.
"Wait a peanut-picking minute" ....
Utterly fantastic.
Plus, you just introduced me to the intense pleasure of playing bird calls on my bedroom laptop. I had to peel 4 sleeping cats off the ceiling! Ha ha! Again!
Summer, DH gave me a nice little alarm clock that has the option of bird calls (extremely good ones). When I was trying them out, my two older cats paid no attention, but the younger one was all over me and the radio trying to figure out where the heck those birds were!!
Yeah, I just had a cat try to crawl through cyberspace looking for a bluejay.
Must admit, I take perverse pleasure in teasing my cats.
LOL - it's good for them, Summer, keeps the little critters on their toes!!!
Oh thank you summerkid!! I got laughter to tears this moring with your comment....
I had to peel 4 sleeping cats off the ceiling!
If y'all go to http://www.ask.com you can type in a bird species and the first result will be Cornell.. They usually have the sound of the bird there too. This is great having my comp right next to this window .. I can crack it a bit and the sound echos out over the back bird alley here..
I got the peanuts from WBCenter here ...5# for 1.89.. I am certain these peanuts are alright, they usually all get eaten and I pick up any that have been left...
Thanks all!!
Deb, love the story and the stop-motion photography! We're due for more of the white stuff soon, are you? Keep warm! :)
Summer, good to see you here! :)
Wonderful series of photos, Deb...you talented woman, you.. :) Keep them coming.... :)
Melanie
oh to funny. Still can't believe the snow you got
Thanks Mel, and Donna! ..
These Jays are very entertaining the more I watch them... Another somethin' somethin' one of these did today. (Continuing the story above).
The Jays are managing around the many doves. They are actually learning to work together pretty well. Here in this picture of one of the Jays with some Mouring Doves. Watch as he shovels out some of the smaller seeds for the Doves to eat, to the left and to the right, then he picks out and gobbles up only the peanut halves. Doves like to pick it off the ground anyway much of the time. Farmer Blue Jay here is really smart to feed his Doves! Everyone was happy..
Very nice deb!!
