How to breed youjiros

Norfolk, VA

Does anyone know what varieties of i.nil and i.purpurea are needed to produce a youjiro. I'm planning on making one myself.

Be prepared for watching the little buds fall off. It is very, very unlikely you will get a cross but it won`t hurt to try I guess.

It sounds like fun too. They tried to cross purpurea with hederacea and after 2000 attempts they got one seed. I can`t wait to try crossing more unrelated species again myself. :)

btw,I got one seed...from two very unlikely choices. I`m sure going to plant the seed. It might just be a selfed seed of the parent plant or a fluke but it will be interesting to watch it sprout and grow.

Back in the fall of 2005, I've crossed crimson rambler(i.purpurea) with early call blue(i.nil) with the blue being the seed parent. the cross was sucessful, however, a fungus somehow got inside the seed pod and attacked the inside of the seeds. The cross yield 3 seeds. I will try this again but this time, I will do it inside.
