Does anyone have a photograph of the oriental lily "Flying Circus"? It was bred by Judith Freeman and is no longer in production because it had some drying problems, not due to virus. I believe it was a double. In my winter readings I have seen a description of it, no photograph, and found both the name and the description intriguing. Curious if any of you ever purchased it and still have it or have a photo of it to share? Thanks.
"Flying Circus"
I've never heard of it, but what do you mean by "drying" problems?
Rats! I deleted the e-mail I got regarding this lily last week. I want to say it was something with the flower drying and rotting. In any case, it was taken out of production, but they(at the Lily Garden) were unable to detect any sort of virus, but still it was taken out of production due to the problems.
The book I am reading is written by Michael Jefferson-Brown, called "Lilies: A Guide to Choosing and Growing Lilies" (first published in 2003)
It has actually been a great read for me, a different read than Mc Rae's wonderful book. The exerpt in this book says that this lily has up to 50 petals. It sounded beautiful. And what a name!
So there's something wrong with it genetically.
Beak, I believe you have it right.
Mainiac, Thanks! It is very interesting looking, almost orchid-like. Very pretty and not at all the the look of the double orientals we have come to know. The description in that book is right on. I wonder what happened to it in your yard?
