A little bit later here comes Kinglet...
Sunday Birds
Great ones, Deb.
Debnes,
Your pics are all great! Love the photo of the Warbler flying away! Super that you captured the wings like that! Warbler and Kinglet pics are adorable, just as they are! The Hawk photo is great!
Thank you Marilyn...Boy, that hawk is getting closer and closer, Yes and I have another prey animal that comes through my yard to try and catch a bird.. Its a big brindley black and brown cat! Has all the look of a feral cat, with spooky bugged eyes. My yard must be an eco-magnet for all kinds of wildlife, and it is strange for where our house is located. I really do love it though!
I got some raw unshelled peanuts today and set them out.. I will watch for what comes to get them. :-)
deb--your pics are so cute and so are your comments! A lovely break from doing the dishes tonight!
I am encouraged that you took your pics through the window. I have been trying to get a few photos by cracking the window open and of course they all fly off.
I am surprised that your weather is so chilly, too. Ours is turning cold tonight, too, so we should have some pretty good feeder action tomorrow, too, (Marilynbeth, don't you think?) I'm going to mix up a new batch of suet!
Thanks Judy!
These little guys are a ray of sunshine on a cold day...getting a good window shot was an important goal for me. When it was nice out I could have it open, but dipping into the 20s now, no way I'm going to open it!! Burr indeed!
Here are some frozen and refrozen icicles and a character that needs little or no introduction....
Oh and this wee thing is really learning her way around the place now.. I was really missing the hummers, and then I get a couple teeny tiny birds that dart around slightly similar to them. Of course Kinglets don't fly backwards, or hover near as well.... I will miss these all summer now, LOL!
I had posted this pic in a thread for critter captions today, and couldn't resist sharing it here too.
:-S
Awww... too cute Deb! I shoot much of my bird photos through the window too :)
That's great Amylen!
Y'all probably saw a few of my blurry shots from before I took the screen out. I'm really glad it became workable for me here at all. We can get a lot better shots from behind the window than being outside.. One day I may get a remote set up like brother Trois, till then, this works for me.
Check out piggy here...And I thought he was up there spying out the suet cake, but he went for the home-made stuff on the plate. go figure!
Debnes,
Great photos of the Warbler and Kinglet!
Mockingbird loves his/her fruit! What did you put out on the plate that's in the beak? Cherries?
Thanks Marilyn!
Those are dried Cranberries and fresh Green Apple bits also smushed into the peanut butter..
I need to find a line on some Dried Marichino Cherries, Wild Bird Center only carries the black ones now. Cranberries are a close second.
Deb, Fabulous photos and captions!!!
Tabasco,
Yes, it will be turning cold Monday night. 29 for the low with snow flurries/showers. Brrrr
Wow Deb your hawk pic is a great shot! I saw a Kinglet at the suet but didn't have the camera ready. They are fast little buggers. I need to get some of the fruit and mealy worm mixture to tempt more varieties.
Stay warm.
great pics Deb. I can't believe you got snow or are my eye decieving me in the pics??
Thanks everybody!
Yes Donna, about an inch!! A snow day for the kidos too, they are enjoying it, and sorta driving me up the wall! I sowed several more kinds of seed today.. these will start inside. I am trying out some new Bio-domes..we will see... The rest of it is outside and in the little pop-up GH my sister Jana got me for Christmas.
Birdies are a little shivery, but they are holding up. I have tended the feeding trays quite often so they can keep up their calories. Boy have they all been scarfing it up too! got a lot of pictures yesterday and today.. thinking of making a new thread for them. It is amazing how a camera can open up a 1' wide window, (without actually opening it..lol.
Oh btw, if y'all are wondering why I don't have feeders up, it is because of my down view out this window.. There is a clearer shot to the ground from here. If they were up my neck & eyes couldn't take the strain.
Wow deb thats a nice setup!
Thx Pelle! It folds up really easy too into a satchel that is about 2 1/2' .. I really like it!
My sister is going to get a lot of my overflow seedlings for her acre in Justin TX..:-)
Deb, I've seen those advertised - had no idea they were so cool!!! Have fun!
Deb, what a nice group of bird photos you took, and very good taking through the window. I took quite a few last year but this year it is s o awfully cold and miserable, I just try to keep the birds fed. Your bird shots are just great. Wish there were kinglets here.''
This time of year there are hundreds of quail, and more than 35 goldfinches, probably a dozen Oregon Juncos, some English sparrows, and a pair of Song Sparrows. That is all but the quail eat about 30 to 40 lbs. of chicken scratch a week, plus some wild bird feed.
Donna
Thanks Donna,
It sure can get expensive feeding these little friends.. for sure! In Spring you might hang out some nice insect suet in a location you can watch .. You may see a few Kinglets coming up your way to Canada. Some might even stay there for the Summer. See the map.. Orange is Summer.
