All you have to do is come hang out with me at the CA Native Plant Society booth from 11:45-2:30 on Sat 3/24 and you can spend the rest of the day wandering around the show for free! Let me know if you're interested. If there are a lot of people interested or if you like the idea of helping out but would rather go to the show on a different day, it sounded like they didn't have a ton of volunteers yet so I can check with the person in charge and see if there are time slots on Sat or on the other days of the show that he's having trouble filling and would be willing to have non-CNPS members help out.
Anyone want to get into SF Flower & Garden Show for free?
That is a great offer ecrane !
I think I am 'on call' this year with the Bromeliad society which is doing a Designers Exhibit in the main hall.
It sounds like it is going to be a fabulous exhibit, and how could it not be with David Feix at the design helm and all those fabulous bromeliads and succulents that the members are going to contribute.
Maybe we will bump into one another.
That does sound like a great exhibit--I will definitely be checking it out (along with all the others!) after my shift is over--maybe I'll run into you! I had actually been wondering if one of your fabulous designs was going to be there on display--have you ever done a landscape exhibit for the show?
Ecrane,
I have been involved with the show since its second season , way back when it was held at Ft. Mason Center in the mid 80's. .
When the show was bought several years ago by Salmon Bay Productions and the venue changed from a 'not for profit' to a 'for profit' show I stepped back on my involvement.
( there was also some political fallout and many of us decided to take a step back for awhile , especially those of us who had a long involved history )
I have not staged a major exhibit in the Designers Concourse since it has moved to the Cow Palace but continue to be involved in exhibits for other vendors such as doing design installations for Sunset , The Garden Conservancy and a few others.
When the show was under the auspice of the Parks and Recreation Department (during the Ft. Mason years ) I installed 4 exhibits in the designer concourse and when I was not installing an exhibit was involved in a variety of different positions that ranged the gamut from production to horticultural judging.
I love going to the show. It is like 'old home week' !
I figured you'd probably done some exhibits for the show at some point! I didn't know that about the history of the show (I've only lived out here for a few years), it always loses something when a local not for profit thing gets bought up by people who are out to make money so I don't blame you for stepping back a bit! I definitely love the show, last year I skipped it because I was busy getting ready to put my house up for sale, but this year I'd been planning on going anyway, and then when CNPS started looking for volunteers I figured it was a good chance to help out and then also get to go the show for free as an added bonus.
