Here we are in the middle of January and it is 34 degrees outside. For the last 2 days we have found and killed 7 big honker flies in our kitchen. I HATE FLIES!! Kind of groggy and not too swift but big. I noticed a few outside my patio this AM. Do they hibernate and if so, where should I look?
CLOSED: ID the fly source?
Were they all blacK? Could be black horse flies which are huge that came into the house to warm up or house flies. Here is a link which has identifications for several types of flies.

I think they hibernate cause we have a pileated woodpecker that pounds on our house and after pounding we get lots of stink bugs and house flies (big ones) that evening. Too soon to be a larva hatch. Fortunatly my cats get most of the flies and my dog kills all of the stink bugs. He does it with such distaste when killing you know they taste horrible.
