Do you have pictures? Eremurus

What plants do you have them planted with? When do they bloom for you? Thinking about ordering a few? Just wanted some opinions and pictures for ideals.

ghia_girl, I have Eremurus Tropical Dream. The foliage grows early, but as it starts to flower the foliage dies back, so you need something that will come up after. My 'plan' worked out well by accident.

I have Lathyrus vernus, a dwarf which flowers early, and Papaver orientalis near which has early foliage and dies back later too after flowering. In front I have dwarf Dahlias which come up after and cover the dead foliage, with species Dahlias behind and they camouflage the dead foliage.

This pic shows a pink Lathyrus vernus, the spiky foliage behind is Eremurus, at back Papaver oreintalis and the red leaf just in view at the right is Nandina domestica pygmaea Firepower. Sandwiched between is a Hemerocallis middendorfiana.

I'll see if I can find a pic of the 'later' view.

Here it is flower along with the poppies on 19th June, dahlias still not really showing but growing ready to take over.

Taken from the 'right' side in the top pic, the hemerocallis to the left with the Lathyrus just behind that and foliage getting tatty.

Now you can see the dahlias coming along, dwarf at the edge and the species in the middle behind the Eremurus getting some size, the Dahlia species grow to around 5' tall.

There is a Sedum to the left which is in front called Frosty Morn. I also have lilies and delphiniums amongst the species Dahias.

This was on 6th July.

Wallaby - thank you. (an off note) I'm a little surprised the poppies are not around longer? That was one of the things I was thinking of using.

The poppies flower for a few weeks mostly in late May through June here, the foliage dies back and starts growing again in the autumn. They did flower at the same time as the Eremurus though to good effect. Poppies can throw up some later flowers, depending on the weather, it was hot here this summer.

jmorth - are they planted with iris? or are the iris on the other side of the fence, what is plant with the eremurus?

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

ghia, the iris are on the other side of the fence...some rudbeckia were planted in front of foxtails to finish the season off as foxtails are spectacular but a moment. Last year a late cold front put the hurt on the foxes flowering scapes though the bulbs looked to have survived. This past fall I planted several more hoping to really make a visual impact. I've some evening photos somewhere that are impressive, if I find em, I'll post them. Should you go with Eremurus, be sure to amend your soil to make excellent drainage, I added nearly a 5 gal bucket of sand to the area to faciliate swift drainage.

I planted my Eremurus ('Cleopatra' and 'Spring Valley' from Brent & Becky's) with white allium and early iris. Worked out pretty well.

I think I also had some hardy geranium blooming with them, but I can't recall the variety. I'll look for some more pictures...

They were fun to grow and I hope they come back again. I'll be interested to know what others plant with them.

Cannot seem to locate the fox's pic desired, but did find one with more blooms.
