Bizarro Weather - Whose bulbs are growing?

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm either crazy, or unbelievably lucky.

I have MS, and I had a horrible autumn. I managed to get a few tulips in the ground (angeliques!) but that was it.

I planted the rest this past Saturday. It was over 60 degrees in my back yard, and I couldn't stand that I had six hundred or so daffodils, tulips, and other assorted bulbs still sitting next to my front door awaiting my attention. The ground was perfect for planting, so I stuck them all in the ground. It was January 13 2007. Gads. January.

I decided, why not? Everyone else has theirs coming up already, and who's to say they'll survive the rest of the winter? Mine are now in, and we just had our first night of freezing weather. It's hard to guess if the ground will even freeze.

Maybe my horrible fall will turn out to be some kind of a crazy blessing in disguise. Ya just never know.

Anyone else ever do anything this nuts? Are they all goint to die, or might I just get lucky?

Blessings!

I am very curious what going to happen to them! Please keep us informed!
Were the bulbs still in a good condition ?

Greetings Bonitin!

I'm curious, too!

I bought my bulbs this year on eaby. I have a new house, no money, and it didn't have a single bulb come up last year, so I decided to plant like crazy. I decided to give the ebay sellers a try, and I'll tell you what-- I received absolutely beautiful bulbs. That's one reason I was so heart broken in the fall. It wasn't the investment-- but those poor babies were so beautiful.

They were still in perfect condition when I got them in the ground. They were still big and fat and firm. I'm hopeful, but I've been accused of being an optimist so many times that it's almost like being cussed at!

I'll let the group know how do.

Blessings!

Lastelf,

I know people who routinely plant 5000 daffodils a year and they often don't get finished until this time in January. The fella I'm thinking of is in Cincinatti -- zone 6 -- but he has magnificent flowers and they doi bloom, just a couple weeks late (so 3rd or 4th week in April in Baltimore as opposed to 1st or 2nd week of April)

If the bulbs weren't soft, you are good to go!! Congratulations!

I also live in zone 5 but in Eastern WA. We have had a weird winter. If there were any bulbs or other plants starting to grow I wouldn't know as there has been frozen snow, anywhere from 6 " now in warmest places, to about 2 feet where the snow was shoveled off the roof. My one and only Rhododendron is about have covered with the frozen stuff. I don't expect to see any snow drops, hellebores, or iris for a couple of months, depending on the weather.

I posted a photo of a pot of forced Hyacinths, I couldn't stand not having some bulbs in bloom. At the same time I bought a pot of tulips. Sure have enjoyed them. Here is the photo of the tulips.
