Flower Scent Graden closing this year

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

Heads up! Flower Scent Garden is closing forever on July 4, 2007.
http://www.flowerscentgardens.com/introduction.htm

If you want some really nice lavender, dianthus, and other fragrant plants, better hurry and place your orders. Last year I bought some lavender and dianthus, really nice plants.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh no!!!

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

There are some orders that I must place, then. I have several oenotheras I want to try! Augh!

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

that is the nicest man. Sad news for us gardeners. I'd love to know what his new venture will be, he sounds excited about it. I'm thinking about getting Christmas box. Does anybody grow this?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I am sooo bummed!!! He geniunely seems to be a dear heart - so down to earth (and prompt) in his emails!!!

Nevada, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you for the heads up. I see several things I am interested in, including the Christmas Box vossner mentioned. Anyone growing this?

Polkton, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you for this thread. It was a good reason to pay a visit.

Marietta, NY(Zone 5a)

I feel like I'm losing my best gardening friend... I haven't found any other place that describes the actual fragrance like he does. All other places just say it's fragrant or very fragrant... What I like to know is does it smell like raspberries or roses, sweet or spicy? I just adore his descriptions. Does anyone else know of another nursery that is devoted to fragrant plants???

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

I'd never heard of this nursery, and had a lovely time browsing the website. About the only way it could be improved would be computerized scratch & sniff!

I ordered several plants, which I am anxious to get, including the while lavender that I've needed for one of my planters for a while and haven't been able to find.

Thanks for posting this!!!

Sussex, WI(Zone 5a)

I saw this site on another thread and got really excited! I ordered some really great plants, I am always looking for fragrant plants and can't always find them. I didn't realize he was closing until after I ordered. Boy, was I bummed. When the time comes I will just have to check the boards to see how to propagate seeds from the new plants since I bought all annuals.

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

I ordered all perennials--got them last week--already have them planted. I wish I'd have ordered more.

I'm anxiously awaiting my order. It will be shipped out on Monday. :) I could have spent moocho $$. Had to slap my hand. ;)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

His plants are wonderful!! All of mine but 1 are in the ground - and the petunias from last year reseeded and I have a hanging pot full of leaves now!!!

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

My order was shipped Monday and still not in NJ. I feel so forlorn, lost, [supply suitable adjective here], ...
If USPS lost it, I will SCREAM.
On a different note, rabbits dug up my French tarragon and carried it off. And I own 2 dogs! the nerve!!

Zanesville, OH(Zone 6a)

I placed an order that should arrive today. I, too, am totally bummed out that he's closing. I ordered seeds from him in the past and have had 2 different plant orders this year (LOL) because he has plants that I want and don't know if I'll find exactly what I want somewhere else. If someone does find another site that specializes in fragrant plants (or at least gives accurate descriptions of the fragrances), please let us know! I thought about getting the Christmas box, too, but didn't...

There's Fragrant Fields, but I liked Flower Scent Gardens more. FF sent me a Ky Col mint during the hottest part of the summer; it never thrived yet they wouldn't replace it. they should have opted not to ship that week, imo.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Did you give Fragrant Fields feedback on watchdog? Very helpful for others to know how you were treated. That most certainly seems unreasonable that they wouldn't replace or refund given their poor judgement of shipping while that hot. Or at min. they should've contacted you to see if you wanted it shipped then.

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

Think so.
And my FSG order arrived! Yippee!! Guess what DH will be doing on Mother's Day for moi????

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

LOL - must be nice...

Yipee ... mine arrived also! Looks like my DH will be busy also. :-)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok...just plain NOT fair...LOL. Honestly - even if there was a DH I'm not sure that I'm trusting with my plants - sad, but true!

Well, I'll have my sweet dog on guard duty ... LOL He'd better w a t c h his step! hahaha

West Orange, NJ(Zone 6a)

Oh Chantell, tell you what, I'll plant them myself and I'll have both collies on guard duty. How's that? DH can go clean the basement instead ;^D

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I feel much better now...ROTFL

Zanesville, OH(Zone 6a)

My order arrived yesterday, too! All my plants are very healthy looking. And he threw in a couple extra plants (could be because the lily-of-the valley I ordered wasn't available). I might have my DH help me with the planting, but I'll be doing most of the work. Call me a control-freak but I like putting my plants in the ground myself...unless it's on one of the steep hills on our property LOL. My DH is better at scaling those hills then I am LOL!

The info on Fragrant Fields (never heard of them) is much appreciated!

I ordered Mock Orange Snowbell from Flowerscence Garden, and they're already blooming. :) Thought I'd post a pic of them. I'm so pleased with them and the service I got. Sure hate to see them close.

Since we've been under such strict water restrictions, I've got them in containers right now. See how beautiful they are. :)

Okay, now this isn't from FSG, but I'm posting it here anyway. :) This is a pic of my gardenia which is blooming. I have 3, but will bore you with only 1. grin

Never, every bored with Gardenias - when I get blooms I will post MULTIPLY pictures...LOL

Zanesville, OH(Zone 6a)

We bought 2 Mock Oranges from FSG this spring... 'Innocence.' Both are blooming their first year! They even impressed my husband :~) This isn't a great pic but this shows the first blooms after they opened plus all the buds...

Also, I placed 2 orders with FSG this spring and am still kicking myself for not getting certain plants...the hostas, irises, the sweet box, lily-of-the-valley, verbena, mums, 4 o'clocks (I'd love to get seeds for those), I could go on & on...LOL

Denise

Denice ... I feel the same way. LOL Guess we will all have to share our finds. :) My pocketbook just wasn't big enough before he closed. Sure wish I'd known about him last year.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I should be receiving Sweetbox from another seller since Glen was sold out... I will try to remember to post here regarding how the plants look. The price was incredible!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

So I dont' forget here's their website: http://theplantranch.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=80
This does not appear to be the same business that sells through ebay (location is in 2 different states) Please remember I've not rec'd mine yet so I can't comment. I've left a message for them regarding the shipping status.

Oh Chantell ... make me drool!! LOL Now you know it's too dry waay down south for me to set out more plants, hon. :-(

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Couldn't you put these IN the ground...that's where they're going "here" :)

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok the Sarcococca confuse arrived...promised I'd show you all the size etc. I was very happy with them esp. at only $2.29 each. Ordered these last week (TH, I think) and they were here when I got home.

And here is the 'Fragrant Cloud' (from Flower Scent Gardens) only planted 3 weeks ago. Have the spicy petunias, dwarf stock below it and hopefully growing moon flower up against the tall bush/tree thing. The scent at night is awesome!!

Wow! Those sweet box look great...especially when you consider the price :~) Your plants from FSG look like they're doing great, too.
