Cercis siliquastrum

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Judas tree. Anybody grown it or can tell me how it looks and performs? Saw where it related to Red Bud. Got a bunch of seed here gonna plant, but wanted to make sure it wasn't a pain in the rump tree.

I think I would steer clear, if only because of the common name. Anyone else know what a Judas goat is? Ken

Ju'das tree"

1. a purple-flowered Eurasian tree, Cercis siliquastrum, of the legume family, supposed to be the kind upon which Judas hanged himself.
2. any of various other trees of the same genus, as the redbud.

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?ei=UTF-8&fr=ybr_sbc&p=Judas%20tree&fr2=tab-web for pics... it is just a redbud from the middle east - why not grow native redbud that you know are going to do good here already? I have seen some here and there around and they looked very much like a red bud to me.

Well my quotes did not work --- you get the idea.

With the weather that we have had lately, I think Texas Redbud would be better suited to the southeast. http://texastreeplanting.tamu.edu/Display_Onetree.aspx?tid=17

Hi Mitch,
