It's fascinating to see how some eating places make you feel so warm, regardless of high-end or low-end price. After many philosophical considerations (please note, philosophy - a Greek invention - is the seek of truth from within the armchair ((no labs, experiments etc, just sweet thinkng)) and so it thrives in the greek tavernas, after a filling meal and with a glass of wine in hand) we came to the conclusion that the ultimate merchandise of an eating place is fresh air - but it needs to be warm, friendly, homely, mystic and God knows what else. Food comes second, then service, decoration etc.

Where do YOU like to eat out?
You're so right there .
I've eaten in some swanky places, and beautiful meals, but not really enjoyed myself...I think too that atmosphere comes first with me, if I feel relaxed and comfy then I'm happy.
There's also another place in town, it's a bit like a cafe really, with formica tables tucked away in a little back street, but they do the most delicious home cooked pies and cakes etc. The only problem is that being small the couple of smoking tables seems to affect the rest of the cafe, so I don't go there any more .Shame.
The place with the greatest view while eating was in the Hells Bay hotel on Bhryr, especially the evening meal with the sun setting , meals were out of this world, but it felt a bit pretentious there, a bit stuffy, though the staff were great. They all seemed to be Australian or New Zealanders for some reason, but they were really friendly, and a great giggle.
We're oof to Carlyon Bay hotel soon , and I'm hoping that the views there too will be fab, from the photos, it's right on the cliff top, they should be...I love nothing nicer than waking up to see the sea out of my windows, especially if it's wild. I don't know if it's being an island race, but I love the smell, sound the sight of the sea, and I hate being away from it..
I'd love to visit Crete some day. My daughter worked in Rhodes for a few years, and used to visit around about as much as she could and said it was beautiful.
It will be a great pleasure to see all friends from DG in Crete and have a nice meal in the village.
