January Buds & Blooms

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Tami, the buds blew but they are coming back. I think it got too cold near the window during this recent cold snap.

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

my multiflora is setting up a bloom right now hmmm wonder what it really is will have to compare and see when they open. You guys are great! Who would have know there was such a small difference in plants. I just keep learning something new everyday:)
All the blooms are beautiful, l always love this thread and one day I will have blooms to add to it.

Carol... smells like spicey butter mmm that sounds good. Will put that on my wish list:)

I scored this multiflora at Kroger's today!! Of all places! The multiflora I've had, lost all but three leaves in the power outage, so this was a nice find - it's huge and it has about 15 peduncles budding up!! YIPPPEEEE!!

Karen, that is AWESOME!!!!

That was a great find, Karen. Don't you love finding rare and exotic plants in weird places like that? I once found one of the Thai hybrid crown of thorns at a Calla (like a small Krogers), and an unusual coral colored one, too.

GREAT score, Karen!!!

Okay now I gotta go to Krogers!!!

Congrats Sistah K, what an awesome find!!

I don't even know what a Krogers is, is it a grocery store? Who cares, it's a beauty Girl, great score.

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Thanks all - not bad for $12, huh? Tami, Kroger's is a grocery store - usually carries ivy, pothos and such in their flower/plant department. Just happened to get lucky!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

That is probably the most beautifully planted/grown H. multiflora I have seen come out of a Box Store.... Great find! There must be bunches of plants in there!!!

Well I went to my Krogers store last night and they didnt have any!!! {:(

We have 2 more krogers within driving distance. I'll have to scope them out and see if I can get lucky!!

Sorry this pic is a bit fuzzy. This H. australis is all I have blooming at the moment, though I do have buds on pimenteliana and a few others

Very nice flower David. Fuzzy leaf or smooth? Ha like my terminology? Is this the only flower or do you have other one's forming?

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nice flower, David!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Tami, both of my australis plants have smooth leaves. I aquired one from Mel and the other is an exotic angel plant from HD. The plant in the picture has other umbles of flowers open right now and is loaded with peduncles.

I do have other hoyas with peduncles forming on them though. The pimenteliana that Carol sent me should have flowers open any time now. In fact they may be open now as I havent been in the gh yet today.

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

is there quite a range in leaf and flower of australis? Or is this one at the USBG definitely mis-IDed?

Here's my pubicalyx in flower in the office window.
I got it from someone in a trade a few years ago - one of my first ever hoyas :-)

Both of those pics in the link seem to be H. australis. H. australis can be quite variable....but the flowers are always the same...beautiful with a great scent!!!

GORGEOUS Love that calycina!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh, Carol. Those are GLORIOUS!!!!

Prescott, AZ

Really pretty flowers Carol. I did notice on Davids list that he does have two different clones of the obscura, major is not attached to either one of them. Interesting..

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

If you ever see a 'major' attached to H. obscura, it would mean it was a hybrid....or a cultivar. Just major...sans the single quotes would be 'not proper'...still think it is made up by someone who saw a large leave on an obscura and decided to put 'major' in there....
