Hi Rosa! Happy New Year to you also! I hope you get lots of blooms this year. Thanks for the lovely compliments:-)

Clare, your holiday centerpiece is so beautiful. What a lovely table you set! I wish I was there to smell the flowers too. Thanks for posting the pics.

I just noticed that my 2 plumeria I took to work to keep alive over the winter got spidermites! spider mites. They infest all of my tropical plants and leave the spider plants and other houseplants alone.

I have some spray I have to bring into the office on Monday to spray them - it's safe to spray indoors.

Hi Maureen! Thanks so much for the compliments:-)

Yeah, spider mites are a bummer, and they happen in houses, basements, and greenhouses too unfortunately. I had a bad infestation the summer before last outdoors, and I just defoliated them all, and the leaves grew back fully within a couple of months. If you want to, you can strip off all the leaves and then spray the tips with your stuff. If you can angle them under a stream of running water before you spray, that might help too. Neem or any oil-based product works well, but most of them are a bit stinky. If you want to keep the leaves, turning the plant upside down (while holding in the potting soil) and rinsing the back of the leaves with a steady stream of water will help too. Use your fingers to rub the leaves under the water if you have a free hand.

clare - how cold are you plumeria getting at night?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

It's raining now so low to mid-40's this week. Typical winter weather is nights mostly in the 40's with a low in the high 30's every now and then. It's gotten down to 32 a few times since the one night of 28. A couple times it went down to 33 and 34. I still have a large number of openly exposed plumies in containers, but I am not up to moving them so I am leaving them where they are. I don't see any damage yet, and I still have two seedpods hanging on. It does warm up nicely during the day, which may be the reason that I'm not seeing more decline and damage.
