Confederate Rose is Hibiscus mutabilis and is SUPPOSED to be hardy to 7a. Hardy Hibiscus is hardy to at least 4a. MOST tropical hibiscus do not set seed. Even hardy hibiscus is slow to come back, but it does come back. Could the person in 8b have given up too soon? Or maybe it was and unusually cold winter. Anyway I would like to try it and I am in 8a. and the Tababuia tree also. But since the tabuia tree is tropical I am wondering if it can be grown in a pot and brought in? How long will it take to grow big enough to bloom?

Orlando, FL

Yardqueen, I dont know anything about raising the tabeabuia trees. I got all the seeds from someone in the neighborhood where I live but I am thinking of planting some seeds. I willl send you some and you can try. The people who have the trees bought them and they were already about 8 ft tall and bloomed right off the bat LOL. I have lots of seeds and I will share for the postage. You can find out the information for the raising of them. They used to have the yellow shower trees but the back to back hurricanes we had took care of them and so they are history.
we saw some of the pink blooming to day and they were a sight to be seen. Absolutely beautiful.

Hello All,
My husband and I went to the Harry PLeu Gardens this morning to see all the Camellias and boy what a treat it was. They have over 2,000 varieties there .... Never seen so many pretty flowers. I am going back next weekend and buy one or two. The last time I planted camellia it was growning good and then all at once it died on me and now I dont have any. I especially like the ones that were bicolor. two colors on a tree. I mean some of those trees were about 15 ft tall and hundreds of flowers on them. Also I picked up some seeds from a tree called Lipstick tree. Had never seen anything like it. I didnt have my camera along ith me but if someone of you would like to try those seed I can spare a three or four seeds and if i go back maybe I can get more as it was covered in hundreds of those flowers. Had a nice fragrance also. Fran

Fran,

My envelope is on its way, and I would love any seeds you want to send...LOL I really do want the tabeabuia tree. I put two stamps on the envelope but I included two more in case what you semd ends up being more. If not just use them for someone who didn't send enough.

Carol,
I'm actually trying out the pink tabebuia in a pot, to see if it can stand being potbound. I have a yellow tabebuia that I'm keeping potbound b/c I know that they can be kept that way. Never seen/heard if the pink can, but since my grandma has a tree, I went ahead and planted a seedling which is now over a foot high in a 1 gallon pot... just a little experiment. ;) Look at how beautifully the yellow does, in pots: http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=tabebuia_chrysotricha

In the convo above, I was referring to the Hibiscus acetosella http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2112/index.html , not Confederate Rose Hibiscus :)

I am interested in seeds for the Flamboyant and Tababuia tree (pink). I've got my fingers crossed that you have some seeds left.

You have d-mail.
Thank you!

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

Gina_Rose,

I think I will try the pink tabebuia in pots also I may try burying the pot like some do their brugs and then dig it up when it gets cold
.
The Hibiscus acetosella is beautiful!!! I had not seen that one before...I love it. The foliage is gorgeous!!! I noticed that it is hardy to 8a which is where I am. Do you think we could trade a few seeds?

Carol

North Augusta, ON

Hi Fran,
Do you have anything that might be considered house plantish? If so, I will take you up on the offer.
Thank you,
LeeAnne

Orlando, FL

No, they are not house plants. I do have some Hoya's that I could trade as I am not that fond of them? maybe for a daylily but not ditch lilies. Fran

North Augusta, ON

Thank you, but live plants won't go over the border. Was just maybe hoping you had some seeds. Thanks for the offer though.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Did I hear someone say hoyas? Lol..... Do you know which ones you have? I have some 'Baja' daylily I could dig up for you. Let me know if you would be interested.

:) Kim

Orlando, FL

yea, I have the names of them.
Ok here goes. I have had them for about two yrs got them from some one in calf. Not sure the spelling is right as hard to read the labels.
H pabn calyv Red Buttons
H potts ( big plant)
H salwanosll or ii -- I pps 1910
H spic ( From bangkok #4
pubbcalef Bright
Haustrailia Kuyseaor keysea
H verticillatqa
two others with small leaves all the above have big leaves. I got the starts from the lady and only two have bloomed the top two. May not have the m in the right place. Fran

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Wow....you have some nice ones there. Let me see if I can help with some of the names.

H. pubicalyx 'Red Buttons'
H. pottsii
H. sulawesii
H. species Bangkok #4 (not sure what this one is)?
H. pubicalyx 'Bright One'
H. australis keysii
H. verticullata

The pubicalyxes seem to do best for me when they get good morning light. I have one on my front porch facing east in the summer and it always blooms, usuallly later in the summer. I have never gotten verticullata or australis to bloom yet. A blooming fertilizer in the spring and summer also can help.

:) Kim

Orlando, FL

So which ones aeyou interested in. I have two that bloomed last summer the ones with big leaves probably the first two i listed. The lady sent the starts and they have got big but i am not that crazy for them as the flowers dont last long.
What color are the day lilies. I love them especially if they rebloom. I cant keep up too well with names. but oredered a lot from a nursery in fla a few months ago. Fran.
Ps. did you have really cold weather where you live. I heard Texas got freezing weather. I hope you didnt lose your plants.

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

Sendone2me,
Received my seeds today. You were so generous! I'm really anxious to see these blooming in my garden. Thank-you so much!

Fran,
Do you have any left? if so could I have some of anything you would like to send? This is soooooooooooooooooo nice of you....
Thank you I wait for your reply.... pacing back and forth back and forth.. Oh wont hear anything if I dont send this..LOL
Susan ☺

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Honestly I would be interested in all of them except the verticullata, which I already have. All of my daylilies are rebloomers, the 'Baja' is a red one and I included a pic below. I also have 'Ice Carnival' too that I think I could take a division of. But I have lots of the 'Baja'. We didn't get any bad temps yet, only down to 28 here during the ice and so nothing really froze. But next week they are predicting really low temps, I am worried about that.

Susan, I posted that they are available till i close the deal. Yes i still have lots of the ones i listed so just send the stamps and 33cents for the bubble envelope and i will mail them. boy its cold today....for us ha 44 plus 39 windchill. I don't think i could bear the cold up there.Greetings Fran

Orlando, FL

Kim, Seems i have the one you pictured so maybe the other one huh? I guess you could send one or two of the Baja in case its different from the ones I have, When do you want to exchange now or later. Fran

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok....let me go out today and see how much I can dig up, I only have one clump of the others that I have but I think I can spare a bit. I also have an unnamed daylily, I've been trying to find a name for it but I guess it is just too complicated. I don't know that much about them and don't collect them, these were given to me by a friend that I work with. Her parents collect them but she couldn't recall the name. I included pic of it below too, it's a pretty peach color. The ice carnival is off-white. We can exchange now if you would like, we will be having decent temps here the next few days. Next week a big cold front is supposed to come through....yuck. I am tired of this colder weather....lol.

Don't know if you still have some seeds left. Would love some, only thing is I live in South Africa. Maybe I can send you some of my Datura seeds (tree with pink flowers) and Tamatillo. Will also have Snail Vine Seeds within a few weeks.
Please let me know.

Orlando, FL

Kim, the last two you posted are pretty and would like a few or what ever. I dont collect them for the names either just like pretty daylilies. You didnt say how many of the Hoyos you wanted and do you want just part of the plant or all of it the first two i named are huge and would cost good bit to mail he whole plant. the smaller ones are small plants probably because i didnt hang them. I dont know too much about hoya's my exenlaws had some huge ones and bloomed all time in calif. whee i use to live. San Jose, ca. Well answer back and i will get them off monday. Fran
