I've just harvested some tiny basil seeds and I was wondering how you seperate the seeds from the chaff of small seeds
Thanks in advance
seeds from chaff
I have used a white sheet of paper, creased in the middle. Place the seeds in the crease & gently shake while tilting the paper. The seeds should be heavier than the chaff, so they should separate. The paper color allows you to see the seeds clearly. If you crumble the seeds & chaff first, it will help to dislodge any seeds within the chaff.
Perhaps this will work for you - or at least help to remove some of the chaff!

What a great idea!! thanks sooo much!
Collanders and sieves are also useful for separating the seeds out, or you can gently blow them and the chaff blows away. Make sure you do this over a large sheet of paper though as it is easy to overdo it til you get the hang of it.
