I have finally received two of these awesome tree's and need help from garden land (YOU! hehe) on propagating from cuttings. Do any of you have experience with pine cuttings/propagation? I would really appreciate any help...So much that if they take I might send you one of these little guys :-)
Thanks!
Tim

Wollemi Pine Tree Propagation
I don't think it will work. If it's anything like Araucaria araucana the only way is by seed and possibly stooling. I think they were tissue-cultured to distribute to so many in that time frame. Araucaria are one of the few conifers that can be pollarded and regrow when cut to the ground.
Take a look at this site, they talk a little about propagation by cuttings. The comments in PlantFiles include someone who bought one that was butchered for cuttings.

Thanks! I can tell that these are definately cuttings and not cultured. I have googled several different ways and found that some pines can be but I would like to hear from somebody experienced in this type of propagation, rather than some of the information found on the web sites I have seen. I realize that propagation in itself is a hit and miss ordeal to begin with but a few pointers from a pro might increase my chances :-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great Link Claypa! I appreciate it!
PS I dont intend on hacking this little fella, just looking to give one to mom and grandma.
Thanks again!
Tim
I'm surprised. I didn't expect it being done by cuttings seeing it's so closely related to Araucaria. I wonder if the technique can be used on Araucaria as well. Timfoss445, I wouldn't consider any techniques from pines as its far more related to Agathis & Araucaria than a pine.
OK Thanks Growin!
AFAIK, cuttings work with Araucaria, provided one uses an erect shoot, not a side branch. The problem of course is that there aren't many erect shoots available on a plant, usually just one.

Greetings all. This is not related to Wollemi Pines in any way, just a comment on Araucaria (Norfolk Is. Pine). My experience with them was that they were loathe to regrow branches if you took them off. What I saw in Florida last fall has lead me to revise that notion.
These trees (Araucaria) were overplanted in South Florida. Driving over the highway overpasses let you see far across that pancake-flat land and one thing that grabbed your attention was the virtual forest of Araucarias in every direction (West Palm to Miami).
Fast forward to the same landscape after the passage of 4 or 5 hurricanes and the result is striking. All of the lower branches on almost every single tree was broken, and by lower branches I mean everything below the first 10 ft/3m of the top. The remains were 60ft/18m poles with no branches on the trunk and short branches on top. I had assumed that most would be cut down completely in the cleanup. This year when we visited, the regrowth was nothing short of astounding. Every tree is covered with new side branches growing almost normally. The perfectly symmetrical exclamation points are returning because few of the tops were broken. The Casurina species didn't fare as well and most of them are gone. Good riddance.
Thank you Resin!
Great info! Thanks Penn Pete!
