This is a creek located not too far from where I live. I go there often but have never taken any photos before. I will post several photos of the many trees and plants that grow there.

I was going to dog you, but then I saw the Cyrilla racemiflora picture.
Now, I'm just jealous. What a beautiful place. And the upshot photo is the best.
I believe this to be Chamaecyparis thyoides
Yep, it is. Nice specimen!

Come to think of it, in Alabama, it is Chamaecyparis thyoides subsp. henryae (Gulf White Cypress), as opposed to subsp. thyoides (Atlantic White Cypress). The divide between the two subspecies is the gap in the species' range in northern Florida. Gulf White Cypress differs in greener (less glaucous) foliage, and various other minor characters.

According to this website http://www.conifers.org/cu/ch/thyoides.htm , the "Big Tree" champion is located in my county in the town of Brewton.
What a beautiful place. Makes ya want to grab a blanket, a good book and a picnic basket and just go spend the day lazing among the trees.
Is that Cryilla showing fall color or does it have that beautiful rainbow of colors all the time. That's really nice.
The Cyrilla (Titi) is evergreen, but if it's in a spot that gets heavy frost it will have some red in it's foliage. The ones that are growing underneath larger trees are still fully green.
That creek is a beautiful place. Strangely, there aren't many invasives there, it's almost all native. I usually go there during the winter months because other people tend not to. It's in a rural area and unfortunately during the summer some people go there to party and drink beer, then they throw their bottles and trash on the ground. There are other creeks around here that used to be public but are now private because of these very problems.
You're picturing an Alabama that I didn't know existed. Where about is Atmore? Are you right near the coast? You're photographing a lot of trees and shrubs I envision on the Carolina Coastal Plain but not so much in the deep south. Is your soil acidic?
Scott
Hi Scott - just looked in my atlas, it's right by the northwesternmost corner of Florida
Resin
Yup, I live only 50 miles north of Pensacola,FL. That creek is located in Baldwin County,AL near the town of Bay Minette. The Cyrilla is actually quite common here in the wild but most of the time you don't even notice it. They are growing along the sides of I-65 I know from Conecuh county south to I-10. In spring when they are flowering they look very much like Sourwood and some can get pretty tall. I don't have any in my yard but I did collect plenty of seeds. Our soil here is acidic but varies greatly from being sandy or heavy clay.
Nice pic essay E-guy. I want to take some time here to thank you and all our other regulars who provide pictures of their properties, special places that they enjoy, or just individual trees/shrubs that they think are rewarding examples of what this site is all about. Keep on keeping on and thanks again. Ken
