Does anyone happen to have any that are just plain white, with unvarigated leaves? The only one I have is a JMG cultivar, but I want one that is just a run-of-the mill, plain Jane...
Pure white I. nil?
I have some of the white MG seeds. They may be mixed with some other ones that were growing along with it in the field (pink and blue). But I will be glad to send you a few.
I`m going to grow some wild white JMGs next year. I`m starting out with 3 seeds from Japan but do not know yet if they are indeed white so the growing out will be the true test. I`m also going to do some hand pollinating if they come out plain green leaves and white flowers. By June I should have some to share. I`d be glad to do some trading later on!
I guess I should have said that I'm looking for I. nil, not any other species (at the moment), but if either of you ends up with I. nil or I. purpurea, I'll be glad to trade for them.
Stacey
The seeds look like Nils. Time will tell. I`ll probably be sharing and get ID on it if I`m not sure.
Stacey, I have 3 seeds of white mazinga I got as a gift. I haven't grown them yet but you can try them if you want.
G2005>Thanks, let me know what they come out as.
LGD>Never heard of that one...is that a cultivar name?
I`d send you a seed if you don`t mind trying it out knowing it might not be what you need. I`d hate it if was some kind of invasive. I`m growing it in a pot to find out exactly what is "wild white asagao." The seed is black and looks just like some of the other Nils especially the Hatsu Arashi and some of the yogiros.
Check your d-mail.
I guess it is a cultivar name, that's how it was labeled. Here is a link to a picture although that is not who I bought my seeds from.

There is another link here at Dave's that talks about a white Mazinga. My seeds are light in color. I will look it up and post it for you.

Stacey - Komeri has been offering a wild white flowered Ipomoea nil...the 'mazingy thingy' is a white form of Ipomoea cordatotriloba...
TTY,...
Ron
Ooh, no cordatotriloba, thank you...that particular MG is a very invasive weed here. It looks great growing all over everything, from the neighbors fences to crawling all over the highway medians and pampass grass to all over the side of the roads, but I don't want any in my yard. I had it try to come up dead in the middle of my crushed concrete driveway, and I had to apply some Round-up before it had a chance to get a root hold. My husband commented on the "pretty little purple flowers" and wondered why I wasn't growing any. Silly man! LOL
Up at the shop, there was one that bloomed that appears to be either pink, or a washed out purple. I'm pretty sure it made seeds since that area seems to always get missed being mowed, so I'll keep a lookout for it in the spring...
QueenB
Komeri sent me some "wild white asagao" seeds as an extra that I can send you, but I only got 3.
Beth
Beth, if you would be so kind as to just let me have one, I'll make it up to you! :-)
I hesitated to mention them because I have no way to guarantee to you they are I. nil's. They don't say anything except "wild white (shiro)"
I'll be glad to send you all of them, they were a freebie.
Beth
I am looking for a white morning glory my mother called Mile-a-minute. These seeds were passed around to neighbors in the 50's here in Phoenix. My father built a trellis a foot or so out on the entire west side of our house and this vine would cover it and keep the hot afternoon sun from the house. It would die back in the fall and allow the winter sun to warm the house. I have yellow Yuca vine (Merremia aurea) seeds to trade if wanted. Harold
Mile-a-minute is usually Ipomoea cairica, but has been mis-applied to other species.

Mountainmeadowseeds has been selling them on ebay, don't know if they have anymore:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280005921543
There is a lot of misidentification on ebay so I would check with the seller and make sure they are what you want,
Beth
Since you say the plant you are talking about had white flowers, I'm not sure it is the same thing.

Thank you baolvera. That is a pretty pink flower, and I'm tempted to bid on some of those seeds, but my mother's were definitely white. You know, when we closed her house in the late 80's I found a mason jar full of those seeds and threw them out. They were (are?) supposed to be illegal in Arizona, but my mother lived in the north center city far from any farm land, but she did give seeds to anyone who wanted them. If I'm driving in an older neighborhood in Phoenix I keep an eye out for the vines, wondering if someone is still growing it. Thanks again for your fast reply. Harold
They may have been a white I. purpurea. I'm sure it would've thrived in the Arizona heat, and it would easily covered the kind of trellis you describe. It's also called a granny vine, or tall morning glory.
HaroldS - sent you a Davesmail...

Emma
Stacey,
I have 3 seeds I can send you FROM JAPAN. Packet only marked 'Yuki'.
Bought these here when she was selling
http://lionnet.fc2web.com/JMG/MGsell2.html
But my seed packet doesn't look like either of her Solid White Packets, and I never did find out what I have.
All of my records were lost when my computer crashed, but I should have a scanned copy of the seed packet saved. If not, I'll re-scan for you. LMK
They probably have variegated leaves???
Haven't grown them yet.
I may also still have seeds of 'Gray Lady' and mine were more of a Solid White.
Emma
Emma, I think I had one seed of those that I grew this summer. I know whatever it was had variegated leaves. Unfortuantely, I got too busy with my husband's shop, and didn't get to harvest some seeds from a lot of my vines before the dropped, and that was one of them.
(I've got to come up with a new gameplan this coming summer...*rolling eyes*)
Does Pearly gate they say Pure all white Morning Glory count ? I ordered a package from Seedman ! I had all white from Ebay a few years back but seeds some how got lost in moving.

"Pearly Gates" is a pure white form of I. tricolor, even though it has a yellow throat, which is typical of this species. I grew it a couple of years ago, and it was just spectacular! I didn't hardly get any seeds from mine, though, since they set right before the first frost, and only a very few pods had ripened.
I am going to try some ! I ordered these :))
D9850 Pearly Gates.
Vigorous growing vine to 12 ft. with beautiful all white flowers. Cannot ship to AR, AZ, PR
Package of 20 seeds $2.50

Morning glory's are not prohibited in the state of Arkansas. They may be listed as a'noxious weed like many other states but not prohibited. I told Seedman that but he refused to change
his prohibited listing. They're sold in every Lowes, Home Depot, Sutherlands, Wal-Mart and many small
nursery centers all across the state. I order them in from Logees, Parks,
Burpees and Seeds of Distinction in England, not to mention Mr Hudson's.
He ships to all the other states who list them as noxious weeds and that could be 40 states or more. I told him to get on the phone and call every Wal-Mart, Lowes, Sutherlands, etc,etc in the state of Ar and have them removed from the shelves.

I noticed Parks says on some no ship to AZ ?
http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=3310&PrevMainPage=textsearchresults&scChannel=Text%20Search&SearchText=Morning%20Glory&OfferCode=T1H
I myself don't know the shipping laws ?? sorry.
Az is Arizona
yes i knew that part :)) why ?
Arizona has some state laws governing the importation of most morning glory species because they are considered "invasive" or "noxious weeds". Why, I don't know, other than apparently there has been issues with some species running amok.
As quoted directly from the Arizona Department of Agriculture's website:
"Prohibited...
Ipomoea spp. -- Morning glory. All species except Ipomoea carnea, Mexican bush morning glory; Ipomoea triloba, three-lobed morning glory (which is considered a restricted pest); and Ipomoea aborescens, morning glory tree;
Ipomoea triloba L. – Three-lobed morning glory."
(Quote: Jackie said: he refused to change
his prohibited listing. I told him to get on the phone and call every Wal-Mart, Lowes, Sutherlands, etc,etc in the state of Ar and have them removed from the shelves. )
They will not change anything on their listings. You might as well offer a root canal for free. :)

Allison, I'm just saying that no one else restricts shipping to the state of Ar, why should
seedman.com? His insistance in showing mg's prohibited in the state of Arkansas
is driving me right off the deep end. I'm not fussing at you. I can't and shouldn't get started
on this subject as it all ties back to the White List as explained so well by Mr Hudson,
seedsman, on his website..
In the summer here, I seldom see a morning glory except my own. So much for being
invasive. :)
