Someone was kind enough to give me a bag of gladiolus bulbs. I am in zone 6b and assume that it is too late in the season to plant these....can I store them in the fridge till next season or is there a better place? I have no idea what to do with these...help, help, help!
Need help - glad bulbs
Bring them to Lagrange and we'll put them in a better place. Jim
LOL Jim....you want me to give up the very first glad bulbs I have ever had?????Well...for you, anything!!!! I think Waldo would really enjoy some pretty glads flowering in his yard! LOL
You never responded about the dinner I prepared for you. I looked for you and you never showed. I always get stood up.
Aw shucks Jim....I tried to come, but you give lousy directions and I ended up at some greasy spoon dinner eating fried chicken and grits and talking to a waitress named LuLu with orange hair and bright red lipstick about the foibles of men till 2:00 a.m.! I finally managed to hitch a ride back to CT with a kindly trucker and his wife(Ralph and Irene) whose passion in life are potbelly pigs and homemade beer and I didn't get home till 3:00 p.m. the next day! LOL! Boy am I tired!
carrigan, I th ink you still get the glads up and possibly bloom before frost. I don't they will hold up well over winter unless they have already bloomed this year.
Aw corn shucks CARRIGAN. You sure missed a treat. Polk salad, chitterlings and crackling cornbread. How do you like your chitterling so I will know next time.
I never have to take my glads up because they overwinter here in the ground ok. If they have already bloomed I would refrigerate and then plant next spring. They need lots of moisture. Maybe the truck driver gave you some beer and that would provide the moisture. No!!!!!!! not moisture for you moisture for the glads.
PS Do not bring or send the truck driver and his wife to my house for supper.
Woodspirit...thanks so much...I will give them a try then and pop them into the ground tomorrow!!!! I checked and they don't winter over so they will have to be dug and storedh
Jimmy dear...I like my chitterlings with hog maws, a little salt, pepper, and a nice big fat onion...is there any other way to eat them????LOLOL! P.S. How could I possibly send those poor hapless truckers to your house when I couldn't even find it!!!! Hah!
CARRIGAN - What are you doing up north? You bring yoself back down here whar you belong. Jim
LOL...I confess that I am a born and bred yankee, but two of my closest friends are from the south - one from Louisiana and the other from Georgia so some of it has definitely rubbed off. I love to eat and I love to cook so I collect family recipes from everybody and I will try anything once. I think that since ya'll gave me such bad directions and cheated me out of dinner you ought to give me a recipe and we'll call it even for now LOLOL!!!! Pretty please Jim!!! I'll bet your wife has a veritible treasure trove tucked in her recipe box!!!! LOL
Here is my favorite. I used to fix this at work and everyone would try and eat with me. I usually would prepare enough for 6-8 at a time. On the back of Mahattma red bean rice mix follow the recipe as for as getting the rice mix prepared except do the following. Use a microwave safe dish with a cover. Pour in the bean, rice mix. Slice up a package of any kind of polish sausage,I prefer Echrich, into bite size slices. You have to cut back on the amount of water to use because the sausage will put liquid into the mix. I think I usually use about 2/3 the amount of water. I use the time that it calls for on the package and take off 5 minutes. When the microwave stops add a can of tomatoes, sometimes I use the spicey tomatoes and sometimes just regular. Your choice. Put the dish back into the microwave and cook an additional 10 minutes. Sometimes you might have to cook longer depending on how soupey you like and also all microwaves aren't the same. CALL JIM TO TASTE TEST and get ready for a real good meal.I could take up a collection at work from 5 people of $2 each and I would eat free. A very hardy dish that doesn't take long and is inexpensive and everyone seems to like. Stay tuned tomorrow I will give you a recipe for cheese bisquits. Same time, same Dave's web site.If you double the recipe you use less water. I normally double and make my self sick. Jim
Jim
You've been in my recipe box!! Even my daughter (the picky eater) loves that one.
Cala
I will definitely give it a whirl Jim...BTW what is it called? I am going to wait for that recipe for cheese bisquits so I can make them at the same time and I love your advice about making double. I will defenitely make double and then I can post to you bellyachin about how bad my stomach hurts LOLOL!!!
Cala what makes it so great is how easy it is to prepare. If it gets to dry put more water in and then cook it out. If it is to soupy just keep cooking until it gets right. Want to save as a left over put a little water in it and in the microwave, and really inexpensive. I would cook this at work and the smell would be everywhere and people would start calling asking if they could eat with me. I haven't found the first person that didn't like.
CARRIGAN- TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES- The cheese bisquit recipe will be a day late. I can't locate. Thought it was on my computer but can't find. Have it printed out and will post tomorrow. I promise it is worth the waiting. You'll be wanting me to move up north and open a resturant near you just so you can have them. Jim
Jim I will await your post with baited breath whilst licking my chops furiously and dreaming bisquit dreams!!!LOL
CARRIGAN, Wait and dream no more girl child. I'm going to give you a recipe that will have your husband hollering more-more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think when I grow up I would like to be a chef or a gardener or maybe a truck driver keeping you out all night with the pot bellies and a load of suds. My two grandsons were here and my wife prepared some and we had to have something from the grocery store for our meal. About a 10 minute drive from my house. When I got back they had eaten all of the bisquits and nothing else. After I got through crying my wife promised to bake some more.
CHEESE BISQUITS ALA CARRIGAN
2 cups of bisquick
1/2 cup cold water
3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. parsley flakes
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. italian seasoning
Preheat oven to 450%(CARRIGAN THIS IS NOT A MICROWAVEABLE DISH SO DON'T START LOOKING FOR 450 ON THE MICROWAVE)
Mix together baking mix, cold water and grated cheese. Cut bisquits with a cutter, and place onto a baking dish or pan. Melt butter and seasoning together. Brush the bisquits with the seasoning and butter and bake 8-10 minutes.
Better make two pans full. One for you and one for husband. Hope you enjoy Jim

LOLOL Darn what do you mean I can't use the microwave...Jim doesn't everybody make bisquits in the microwave, I thought the oven was a place to store extra pots and pans in...you mean people cook with that thing! So THAT'S what it's for!!!! Hah! This recipe sounds reallly good and I am a girl who loves bread of any kind. I'm with the grandkids...give me bisquits for dinner anyday and I'm happy, what else does anyone need? Can't wait to try this out! Thanks honey, I'm gonna file it under Health Food by Jim from LaGrange!LOL
Call all of us right before you take them out of the oven. Jim
CARRIGAN - Are they ready yet. I want a bisquit Jim
Spent the day in the garden pulling up weeds and keeping my eyes out for black runner snakes (just kidding we don't have those here..LOL) No bisquit baking today...but tomorrow is looking very good! I'll call you the minute they pop out of the oven but you'll have to run like hell(or like Jim from LaGrange) to get here, I get greedy around fresh baked bisquits!LOLOL
