Susan, we have a lot in common. :~) I noticed that Select Seeds also sells that variety. I have over 6 flats of perennials, veg' & herb seeds started in my cellar, yet I'm now tempted to buy still more.
You are right, btw. You really do have great turf! It looks like you have plenty of Sunny areas on your property - I'm jealous.
Fragrance in the Cottage Garden - Yes, a MUST!
Yes, I meet many kindred souls here and it makes me feel as though my obsession is quite normal. :)
For those who want to see my turf and my oldest :)

Nice! I'll bet those will take off and try to overgow the window this year... Spot had better watch out!
Congrats! You've got blooms! Those are going to be amazing, and very effective already :)
I need to do some serious trimming on my ZD rose... It needs some tidying up, and there's one whole branch that I think needs to come off at the base because it's really determined to block the stairs. I've never rooted rose cuttings before, but if anyone can point me to the right thread with instructions, I can give it a try... I'd also be happy to send cuttings for postage if somebody wants them... I'm assuming this is the right time to take a whack at it... a few buds are starting to swell, but it hasn't started leafing out yet. ??
I'd really like to share this one around, but I'm definitely no rosarian, so any pointers would be much appreciated! Just a link to somewhere that it's been discussed would be fine... I don't want to turn this into a propagation thread! Thanks!
oooOOOOhhhhhh, Brigid, those blooms are just fabulous! I can almost smell them!
Come on down and stick your nose in them! My golden showers (planted on the arbor opposite the ZD on the NE wall) is bud-laden right now, too. When they both sweep over the top and mingle, it should be quite a show.
critter, here's a great thread on rose propagation:

Thanks, Neal -- that's just what I needed! I think I still have to do some pruning and shaping before blooms start (the thread mentions taking cuttings right after bloom), so maybe I'll just stick those cuttings into the semi-shady nook with the rose (perhaps covered with soda bottle cloches) and see what happens... I just hated to toss it into the brush pile if I could use it to make more rose bushes! :-)
Gemini Sage.. THATS AWESOME!! Your making miss my bed time by me being forced to read the entire thread all the way through!! GREAT INFO!! Whoo hooo!!
:)
So many roses.. so many cuttings .. my future looks very rosey ;)
Susan
it was lovely.. Thanks so much :)!!
Susan
You're very welcome, I've gotten lots out of that thread! Jill, the growth you prune off ZD is fine for cuttings. I think it needs to be hardened off growth rather than soft, new growth (during the growing season, stems that carried flowers work well). I've had good luck with cuttings from spring prunings.
Happy birthday, though late, Susan! Wishing you roses and roses and roses.
OK! Wish me luck, then... I'm hoping to have lots of rooted cuttings to share! :-)
......sending luck.......
Susan, Happy Belated from me too!
I put in my order to Thompson and Morgan. Because of my procrastination I got $10.00 off. Whoo hoo!
I ordered sweet peas - Elegant Ladies and America. Marigold - Simba. Rudbeckia - Prairie Sun. Sweet William - Summer Sundae and Lions Ear - Staircase.
I have 2 Datra seeds sprouted. Never grew them before.
Thanks! :) I will be planting lots of roses today.. Thank goodness I'll have some help.... Thats the thing about buying so much stuff.. it has to get planted or else dead body bags all over!!
:)

I just want to write in support of the humble wallflower.
I associate its fragrance with very fond memories of a dear old English lady, Mrs. Noble, and her lovely garden next door to my early childhood home.
This flower has the sweetest scent - and early in the season! For those in warmer climates, you can have fragrance all winter.
I have bought a cheap package of English Mixed Colours from WM for about a buck. They are supposed to be easy to germinate - and a perennial.
Wallflowers are often planted as companions to flowering daffodils and tulips. There are several pictures in the plant files.
Have you grown them before? The comments in PF make me wonder if they're reliably hardy north of zone 7. Then again, "nothing ventured, nothing gained!"
Well, I will be trying them this year - I will let you know :-)
I just planted out about 24 hunks about 3 days ago....they're looking good, but I thought they were annuals, not perennials. Then they might be biennials. Guess you could say I have no idea what I planted. LOL! That package said Wallflowers.
Just love those surprises. I might not know what they are, but at least I think I can be confident they will have a nice scent.
Suzy
I love Wallflowers. I planted an orange one in 92 and it died in 94. We are on the edge of the hardiness, and I think it is bienniel. I keep thinking I'll try them again. I got mine from a guy who had a greenhouse here in town, so it was already a small plant.
