Well, that's my question. ☺
I've looked a little on the web,but couldn't find the answer.
I'm in zone 5/6 so I dig my tubers. But this year I saved some seed and will try and start it in January.
If I DO get germination, does anyone in a 'Dahlia tuber digging state' know how long it will be before I get a flower ... are we talking 2 or 3 or more years?
You can see the 'Hawaii' Dahlia just to the left of the Arbor. They are smaller flowers, but look great in a vase. These are the ones I saved seed from. They were surrounded by Dinner plate Dahlia's, so I assume some seeds may produce some larger flowers. ☺
Thanks in advance for your information,
Sharon
Dahlia - seed to flower-how long?
Hi Sharon,
That's a trickier proposition to get viable seeds to germinate from less 'native' species. I did grow the Giant Hybrids mix from T & M last year just fine - they were BB's or so. If the seeds germinate they should flower 3-4 months after - do not expect them to be true. They might be nice though anyway.
this was a Coccinea species seed from T & M
