Checking my scales

Poland, ME

I took a moment this morning to rummage through the box containing my scales. I am pleased to see a lot of results! This picture is a scale from Soprano, a huge OT that will no longer be produced commercially. I was hoping to make a few more and it looks like I will be having some babies!

Mainiac, what nice work you have done. Soprano was beautiful in your Photobucket.

Now if I can just make all of those survive!

I find getting scale bulblets to survive a lot easier than getting seedlings to survive. The bulblets have their built in food supply. I still have some scale bulblets from the Lily Garden from this past June in the fridge. They look almost as good as the day I brought them home.

Goodie! Reminds me I need to check on mine...it's getting close to the time to put them in the fridge.

Shouldn't I wait a while before refrigerating them? Shouldn't I let them get as large as they can?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I think I would let them get bigger.

Wait, do all OTs go in the fridge? Remember, I am caring for Miss "Bravura" and her new offspring :0).

Here is "Bravura " and how she is doing. I removed the two scales from the bag for the photo. I was afraid something might happen to it if I rinsed it off to see what else might be going on. Do I put them underlights? Leave them in the bag? I just want to be sure I am following this through in the correct manner. Help?

This one looks a bit more vigorous. Scales seems less fragile than the seeds. Either way, since I have no experience, I feel like I'm going to mess something up, either way.

When mine have sprouted leaves in their baggies, instead of putting them in the fridge, I potted them up in little pots with very free draining soilless mix and covered the pots in a mini greenhouse of sorts- a white/clear plastic shopping bag. I propped the bag up to keep it off the leaves and slowly opened it up a bit over time to get the sprouts used to the humidity outside their bag. These were all put under lights. They were planted outside in the spring and so far did well.

Please forgive my ignorance...OT?

OT refers to Orienpet which is a cross of Oriental and Trumpet lilies.

I couldn't believe it. I scaled almost an entire 22 cm bulb of Conc d'Or on February 9th and when I checked today, there were so many little bulblets and oh so many roots!!!! I had stuffed them , literally, (these were packed) into a 1 gallon plastic ziplock. I potted them up today. Continue to be amazed by Mother Nature and the power of one scale.

LOL magnolia-- you must be particularly fond of Conc d'Or!

Ah, pard, look what kind of freak you've turned me into...Lol! I kind of just wanted to see what would happen (it was a $3.33 bulb, how could I resist the experiment??). Ya know? Would they get clostraphobic in there? Would it really work. By golly, they all took off like mad. Perhaps one day when they grow up ,I'll have some to share ;).
I potted up "Purple Prince" too. I don't even know if I'm going to like that one, but just in case........
