He's a neighbor, a big rig trucker and I was not looking for this. We are getting to know each other. He's an Italian from Long Island. I was not looking for this. He's very nice.
Hi Carol, so happy to see you again. Anything I can send you? I know I owe you something, I just don't know what to send.

My New Greenhouse
An Italian??? Oh my! That sounds good! Enjoy while you can then. I am happy for you!!! Grow lots of herbs to do some cooking for him, LOL
Yeah, send me some of your "hot" house tomatoes, LOL
I don't know. What do you got that can survive up here in the cold? LOL Let me know.
Did the dahlia tubers grow for you??? Hope so.
I am almost seriously thinking of having you to come out and paint my house this summer.
Thanks yall. Carol, luckily I am already growing herbs so all set there. It's the cooking part that will get me. What happens when you get to be our age, you discover high cholesteral and all that. He has to take pills to help control it and he watches his diet too. No red meat. I'll have to die in protein heaven alone. Although I haven't had red meat in a while, I'm missing it a bit. When my DB and SIL come next weekend, I'll have to ask her to marinate some chicken with the steaks she usually brings.
He owns the same kind of property I do, all bought and paid for. He has some big garages on his place though because being a guy he works on cars and has all the necessary tools. He owns his big rig, his P/U truck, Harley and a 4 wheeler. He tried to fix one of my lawner mowers and it was forever seized so he had his buddy give me a spare he had sitting around. He is very considerate, thoughtful and likes the way I am. Can you imagine that? I guess I have always had the wrong impression of italian men.
Only 2 of the Dahlias came up and only one bloomed Carol. I am going to give up on them now. Even though it is cooler here than in S Florida, still not cool enough or good enough soil for special Dahlias. Even the patio dahlias they sell at the big box only act as annuals here. So I am facing up to this reality, I can't grow dahlias.
Let's see, I went to the farmers market yesterday to get some veggies. Although I have some spinach, cabbage and a few lettuces still growing in my cool weather garden, I haven't been able to produce the green peppers, cukers, squash etc to complete the fresh eating thing. I picked up an eggplant, so you know I have to make an eggplant parmesan. Never did that before.
I also need to take off about 20 pounds, although he doesn't complain, I am not comfortable carrying the added weight around. First thing to give up is the beer I think. And get into the exercise room more often. Don't want to take off too much though. At my age, it will all turn to droop and wrinkles.
Carol, I am zone 8b, not really so far off from yours. I would think most anything that I can grow easily will do well at your place. I looked at your trade threads and I can't get a grip on anything except the dahlias, a couple dayliles and roses? Do you garden for butterflies or nummingbirds? I have a lot of those attractors. I have a bunch of native plants, some that are perennials, like some red salvia. I have some white daylilies. Are you still looking for some of those? As near white as they can be anyway. Take a look over here and tell me if anything tickles you. www.mollysfolly.net
Wow, can't say as I've ever been to Oregon Carol. That would be a good way to see your gardens in person. :^)))))
Molly
Well, that guy sounds like a good guy to hang onto then. If he likes you as you are, that it is the best news I have heard in a long time. At our age, we need to be as is! I am very happy for you!!! Just be happy then. You never know where it will go. Enjoy life with him.
As for the cooking. I know you don't cook. But with the herbs you can grow, maybe it will come together. That chicken marinade recipe sounds good and healthy.
The dahlias? Am so sorry that they didn't pan out. Hum, will have to try again this spring tho. I hate to see you not grow the beautiful dahlias. You do have lots of shade so maybe you can put them in part shade and they would survive the hot heat? I will have tubers this spring. Better ones than last year, I hope. Stored them in peat moss and they are doing much better.
We all need to lose weight now. But is so hard. With you doing your painting, that is good exercise.
As for plants, the red salvia sounds great. I want to grow more salvias but is hard to find them. I have lots of perennials in my yard but don't talk a lot about them, I guess. I like any fragrant plants. Any plants for butterflies, hummingbirds, or regular birds would be great. The birds are coming around more now so they are fun to watch.
The daylilies I have are okay. Am not sure if I am into them tho.
Would you like a climbing hydrangea, by the way?
Guess we are getting off the topic here. We are to be talking about your new greenhouse. Sorry.
:^)))) Kinda feels like we are off whispering in the corner doesn't it?
Climbing hydrangea, that sounds most interesting. I have a bunch of the Florida Native Red Salvia Cocchina (sic) plenty to share. I also have a few other colors that do quite well here. They are perennials and because of our false spring they are coming back already. They would be great for you to.
Want to plan on this for the spring? You just need to let me know when your last frost is. By that time mine should be coming back so you don't have to receive a boring dormant plant. I'll have bunches of stuff for you and so very pleased to finally be able to give some of these beauties back or forward, if you will.

I will agree with Molly on that, KathyJO!!! Oh, that is so so so funny! But warm by nature sounds great to me, hehe
As for plants, let's do plan it this spring. Later on this subject and will stop whispering, LOL LOL
