Violets blooming at my house

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

First let me tell you all the story about my AVs. I have them in my greenhouse and I keep them a little above 65 degrees. One night the heater went out and the temperature went down to 50 degrees. I just knew they would all die. I never expected them to bloom. Well they decided to do their own thing and started blooming. I did not even know that many of them were blooming because they are on shelves, some of which are above eye level. So a couple days ago I was in the greenhouse doing some cleaning and what did I find? Several of my violets were blooming. I need to give them a good cleaning because some of them are a little dusty and I can't find my little paint brush that I use to brush the dust off of the leaves. I know that many of you wash yours off but I'm too afraid to. I'm afraid they will all die if I get water on the leaves. Anyway, here are some of the ones that are blooming right now. Some of them have just started blooming so there may be only one flower but they are blooming. This one is Ness' Blueberry Puff.

This one has a label on it that says Saturn, although it does not look like the photos of Saturn that I saw on First Class. It is still pretty though.

This one is a lavender NOID. You can see that it desperately needed water which I gave it. It was happy to have some water and said "Thank you" in a tiny squeaky voice. LOL

This one is called Dali.

This is one that has so many people guessing about her name. I think it is a misprint or misspelled word. The name on the pot says Hananja.

Here is Velvet Fantasy, a rare Russian. Its Russian name is Barkhatnaia Fantaziia. It was sent to me by Allison back in March. The reason the flowers look sort of odd is because they were all growing underneath the leaves and I had to carefully pull them up over the leaves.

And the last one is called Hawaiian Pearl. Allison sent this one to me back in March also. I don't know why the leaves are so tall, standing almost straight up. None of my other ones have done this. What is odd is that the leaves are so tall yet the flowers are very short. Does anyone know why it would do this?

Hey Jesse. Looks like you hit the jackpot. Those little guys are just blooming away. I guess they are stronger than we thought. But I still wouldn't try sustaining them on 50 degree temperatures.

Don't have a clue why the stems are long on the leaves and short on the blooms. As I use to tell my kids "because".

Thanks for the beautiful wake-up this morning.

Beautiful Jesse :)) You grow everything so great !
Hawaiian Pearl is most likly fightting and needs more light . But she looks great ! The low temp's won't hurt these mature plants nor even a baby for short periods but going too low they will slow growth and freeze. Any kind of stress puts a plant in panick to live and they will bloom, sucker, foliage may grow different.
I always fount when cool weather came my plants bloomed crazy for me. But during the hot days even with a/c I would never get near the amount of flowers.
Even with my Chiritas they were not blooming but when we moved here I had no windos or room so they have been living on our screen porch. Many nights going in the 40-and 50's and before I knew it I was blessed with buds and blooms ! I did lose a few Epsicas and took all in that I had left.
Streps love the cool weather too !

Well I always keep it above 65F but one day we left the house and forgot to turn the heat up and it got really cold really fast. That is the reason the temperature went down to 50F. I like to keep the greenhouse above 65F at all times. I was really shocked when I saw all of them blooming. I guess they were tougher than we thought they were.

Beautiful Jesse! Saturn is gorgeous.hmmm I have one that hasn't bloomed just yet.I am curious if mine will look like that. You have some really wonderful plants.

Dunedin, FL(Zone 10b)

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Jesse,
Your plants and blooms are very pretty - congratulations!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Nice, Jesse. Hopefully you won't have any more heater problems. So glad your plants made it OK :-)

I especially like the fantasy you have labeled as 'Wrangler's Spanish Cavalier'. I hate to tell you, sorry, but that's not Spanish Cavalier. It is beautiful though whatever it's name.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

That is odd. I bought it from Bluebird's Greenhouse and that is what the label said. I guess I will have to check on that to see what happened. I wonder if I got my name tags mixed up. Thanks for letting me know because I like to have all of my plants labeled correctly.

Jesse I think you may have just posted pictures of Ness' Blueberry Puff twice. one in place where you have the name 'Wrangler's Spanish Cavalier'

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, that's it. Good!

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Actually you are right. I just remembered that when I bought them from Bluebird's, one was named Ness' Blueberry Puff and the other was named Ness' Blackberry Puff. I did not realize that when I bought them. So they are the same one, I just have two of them. Now I need to find Wrangler's Spanish Cavalier. I have it because I have the name tag. I just need to find out which one it goes with.

Jesse I recall when you bought them you posted the double plant and figured you had two . Hope you find you Wrangler's I recall when you bought it pretty sure you posted a picture then too !

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I will be looking for my Wrangler's as they all bloom. I remember that it was a pretty neat looking one so I want to find it.

Wrangler's Spanish Cavalier (6235) 05/20/1986 (W. Smith) Semidouble bright red-violet pansy/white-green edge. Variegated, longifolia, glossy. Large
Picture in First class one of them there is two. I can't see any variegation in either picture ?? Though this happens often depending on growing cultures.
