Buddleia alternifolia in the Midwest

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Does anybody know if this Butterfly Bush grows well in the Midwest? I have had three in containers that have done nothing but just lay there for three years. Finally got one in the ground last year, but it showed all the spunk of a plant that had languished in a pot too long. Based on the great photos I have seen of this plant, I want to use it (if I can find it) in landscapes, but I have never seen one alive and growing in any gardens.

Scott, You've probably already checked this, but it's here in the PlantFiles http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2687/

Hi Scott,

I'm not in the midwest, but have been growing this for sometime, I'm thinking about 10 years. It did not do much for about 3 years, unlike the typical butterfly bush. It seems to like water and fertilizer. It has often died back to the snowline. But it is now one beautiful shrub. Mine grows to about 6 foot each year, and wider than tall.

Here's the one I want now.
