Ouch to the car. Ouch to what appears to be newer concrete. Biggest ouch to Oak.

looks like the sidewalk won...

Good thing it wasn't Growin's antique blue truck!

With the road on one side and that steep hill on the other, I imagine that thing had some serious root problems. You should see the water oaks that get turned over around here, their root system is flat like a big ole pancake.

Lombard, IL(Zone 5b)

You can't stop progress Viburnum. I bet there was a tripping hazard that needed to be addressed. Probably gonna have to do some sidewalk across the street now. The vicious circle continues.

Most likely the engineer that managed that job is long gone by now. I love my job :)

Last year we had tornado-strong winds a couple of times in our neighborhood.
The most damage was done to the large trees between the sidewalk and the road.
I did see how side walks were replace in front of my house. The tree roots
were cut with some sort of saw.
It's interesting that the new trees planted were chosen by the city were maples.
Correct me if I am wrong, but maples do have extended surface roots.
Would not it be the case that in 10-15 years with 1-2 sidewalk replacements
during that time we'll get the same situation?

OH MY_ OH MY!!!!!!!!!! Can you just imagine the look onthe persons face that owns that car. It not even like you could try and get it off with a few muscular guys either. If that was me I would be speechless , in shock, then in a panic wondering how I was gonna get home.

In New England Speak "That Is Some Big Oak" or in admiration of a new baby or seedling "That Is Some Cunnin (cunning)". Did anyone feel empowered enough to step forward when the sidewalk/curb work began? Or is stepping up no longer social correct? I am not being snip just curious. kt

Just hope there was no-one inside that car when it happened!

There's gotta be an easier way to get genuine wood panelling for your vehicle.

Denver, CO

It was about time the trees started doing something about global warming.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Can you imagine coming back to find that on your car?

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

One who waits beneath the tree
often finds its cost so free
when gazing out and and soaking in
the glories of its blowing wind
the leaves all flirtive in our sight
the branches......Crash!!!!!!!!!

That is good Steve.

Sure glad it wasn't my car. We had some pretty fierce winds the first of the week , guess they were just getting to the oak tree.

Atmore, AL(Zone 8b)

If Q.palustris is overplanted in the area (I think it is in the N. half of the country), than this might have been a good thing.

Thornton, IL

Why is the tree sawed off? That looks suspiciously premeditated LOL.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

probably after it fell on the car (I hope)
