One of the hazards of raring chooks.
Yes!!! that WAS a valuable Prize hen.
Trouble in the Chicken Coup.
Oh my gosh ! What kind of snake is it ? Is it a posionous one ?
Not poisonous.
But at this size very dangerous.
Its a carpet snake *Python*
We can relax, Peggie. You're close enough to me and Toto that you and I don't have to worry about THAT Aussie creature!
From the looks of how it's hangin', I guess that snake's hide is gonna end up sort'a like Fred's friend, as reported to Clyde.
"Feed me chick to me snake, mate,
Feed me chick to me snake.
So we fed the hen to the rep-tile,
Then hung 'im up by the nake!"
Not dead just being held up by head.
I am going to have to keep him around till he passes the hen
So I can get the band that was on the hen’s leg.
Need to know which hen it was.
We treasure the creatures around here .
Good or bad.
That's good to know, Ginger. I about evicted a tenant once when she bragged to me about having killed a snake...the very Kansas Silky that we had nurtured around our porches for quite some time!
Beautiful bird. Sorry for the loss.
But, in the spirit of your famous Australian jingle.... Since I was a kid, I've always had my doubts Fred would have actually tanned his buddy's hide. You think?
Maybe we'll rewrite that one, then:
"Keep me hen from the snake, Ben.
Keep me hen from the snake!
But the snake crawled into the pen, when
We weren't around or awake.
ALL TOGETHER NOW!...."
...."
"Keep me hen from the snake, Ben.
Keep me hen from the snake!
"Keep me hen from the snake, Ben.
Keep me hen from the snake!
ALL TOGETHER NOW!
Keep an eye on me roo, Lou,
Keep an eye on me roo --
So we kept an eye on his roo, Lou,
And that's it simmering in the stew...
OH I'M SORRY!!! It just came out like that.
brigidlily
Thats a new one,
Can I use that at our next campfire sing along ?
You may have the rights to the verse, ginger -- sing it next time you go waltzing matilda.
brigidlily
Taa M8.
;)
I'm speechless!
Wow, we only have little snakes up here in NH. I'm actually knid of jealous! But what with the coyotes, dogs, foxes, raccoons, cats, hawks, weasels, owls, etc. I guess I can pass on one more predator.
THanks for sharing and sorry aobut your loss.
That's a great idea. I hear peafowl are good for snake control too... ?
Around here they say that guinea's keep snakes away which I think they mean by eating the snakes or at least pecking at the larger ones. Around here the largest snake we are suppossed to have is a 6' rat snake, but up there I guess they use the guineas like a trap crop to keep the snakes off the main crop. I would not mind seeing some more pictures of those Australian critters as they have alot more varietys than us. Take care, Mike
Hi excelrealty
but up there I guess they use the guineas like a trap crop to keep the snakes off the main crop
Thats exactly what they do.
There will be lots more PICS of my wildlife to come.
I just haven`t taken those Pics yet.
I wait till they come to Moi.
I bet them giant jack-rabbits they call kangaroo's can put a number on a crop in a hurry.
Hi excelrealty
You are dead right there.
There is a winery near us.
Every time I go shopping I see
More than a dozen of them eating sweet pickings under vines.
Hi Ginger, you ever see them cute little bears (Koala Kawala) the ones that eat euciliptus (can't spell that either) leaves? Post a picture of one of those if you see one, or one of those crocs I heard about in pickapoo or kickadoo park. I can't spell nothing, my wife might get mad at me using her company name and mispelling everything. She has spellcheck, but I don't know how to use it and don't usually need too. Talk to you later, Mike
Yes they are around the neighbourhood.
But our 2 Big dogs keep them away from our eucalyptus trees.
I`ll try posting some tomorrow.
Ginger I am very new to chickens so if you would please let me know the name of the beautiful roo's picture you have posted here, I would appreciate it.
Have a better day
Melody
Hi MelodyML
Sorry taking so long to answer.
Lost track of this thread.
I will find out tomorrow what kind of bird it is.
Hi CajuninKy
I think it could be used for fighting.
The owner told me he cuts about 1/3 off of the spur
And sharpens it for SHOWING.
Thats a nice bird in your PIC.
While it's illegal in Texas, it certainly goes on here. And right across the border in Louisiana, it's legal. Oh, it's horrible. Those beautiful birds tearing each other up, because we've bred their most aggressive traits into them. The worst in us, bringing out the worst in them.
I must say it is not done here in AUS.
In the Land Down Under the Roosters are to busy fighting giant snakes to fight each other.
Touché . excelrealty.
Today the snake passed the remains of rooster.
Now I have to find the name tag in the poop.!!!
THAT makes me hungry!
I`ll save it for you if you like.
uhhh... why don't you just hold onto it, and if I ever get down under to visit...
By the time you get here it will have become,
"An Endangered Fesies ." lol
lol
