Since the cold spell we had last week, my cat house is inside of my house in my dining room. My grandbabies have really enjoyed checking out the cats and butterflies as they come out.
This is Jolie Faye (aka JoJo). She's almost 8 months old and is my youngest grandbaby. She's been staying with me for the past few days. She's just learning to crawl. I was showing her the Monarch caterpillars yesterday. Her eyes lit up and she kept on reaching for them.
I "parked" her in the family room while I stepped out of the room to tinkle. When I returned, just a moment later, this is what I found.
The Next Generation of Cat Watchers
These 2 ladybugs were too busy to gorge on the bounty around them.
That skipper is awesome! What hungry little cats you have LOL I hope you find more plants.
Janet you have such a variety of butterflies!! The long tailed skipper is beautiful !
I got to see them all instantly! I need to go download something huge!!! Back in a second! hee hee !
UT, your GD looks like a future butterfly farmer.....lol, very cute pics. I love that skipper and the Gulf Frits too.
Connie, the photo doesn't do him justice. He really is a pretty butterfly. He isn't shy at all. I can walk out to where he is and he just keeps on eating.
Fly, I think of all of my grandbabies, she will most likely show the most interest. Kaylee, who's almost 3 has released a GF for me. Then she cried because she couldn't hold him any more. He flew off her hand pretty quickly. Ben, who's 18 months, loves to be outside. But he's more interested in "driving the cars" than in nature. Hopefully that will change some day when he gets a little older.
I released another GF today and watched as the first one from this morning came over to show the 2nd one around. Was pretty neat to see them fluttering together. Wish I'd had my camera handy, but it was still hooked up to the computer from downloading photos earlier.
Here's an earlier photo of the skipper. Might be the same one, then again, might not be. Who knows?
I hope you are enjoying RoadRunner Connie. Don't let your brain go into overload with the speed of the downloads. Welcome to High Speed! You're gonna wonder how in the world you ever did without!
This sunflower came up from putting out only black oil sunflower seeds for the birds and squirrels. I can't stand to have sprouts where they don't belong, so I've only bought the BO Sunflowers for years. I am wondering if it's a host for anything. I always leave them when I see them coming up because I love the big heads on them. Sure puts a burst of sunshine wherever they show up.
Janet - Too cute of a photo of your grandbaby! Love it! Our future butterfly lover generation! YOU are a good grandma and friend of nature! Thanks for sharing all your flying beauties!
I am enjoying RR. zoommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ! When I click on a pic it's there! No waiting for each pixel to fill in. LOL I see all kinds of things I was missing.
The plastic blew loose on the patio so I just went out to staple it back up there and put some more bricks on the bottom. Took the ones off the front porch too. brrrrrrrrrrrrr My front room's a jungle! ! Wonder how many lizards were on those plants ?
Amazing. I'm sweating all morning in the shop and by lunchtime I needed a flannel shirt. NOW it's nearly freezing.
JoJo looks so adorable ...as she certainly is! Hard to believe two weeks ago she wasn't crawling. There she goes!
Really fine pictures Janet!! I forgot what it was like living down there.. it's been so long. Love the BF and the Skippers!!
Congrats on your high speed Connie!! Yaaay!!
What a cutie pie babydoll!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaay is right deb ! It used to take me so long just to see a pic that now I have all kinds of time ! It would have taken me 15 minutes or more to see all the pics just on this thread. Boy ... I've been in the dark ages. Got any snow up there Deb ?
It's wet here and fixing to freeze so we could see some sleet.
Yes Connie,.. we have quite a bit of white stuff for here. Burrrr

Will take some pics tomorrow, too dark and too cold now... I'm gonna curl up and watch the tube with DH.
Sleep tight yall!
Hi Janet and Connie!! JoJo is cute!! And I love all the the pics of the BF and caterpillers.
Thanks Folks! I know I'm partial to her cuz I'm her MawMaw. She is such a wonderful baby. I don't think Hillary and Dean have any idea just how fortunate they truly are to have been blessed with such a happy baby. She rarely cries, unless she's tired. Then it's only until she lays her head down and then BAM she's out like a lightbulb. She does snore, but nothing like her Daddy. He's got a terrible sleeping disorder, sleep apnea. When they stayed here right after JoJo was born, I heard him snoring clear at the other end of the house. He's had surgery a month or so ago to have some "things" removed, including the hangy down thing. He's got a terrible ear infection now, which is why I was keeping JoJo here. Please keep Dean in your prayers folks. JoJo's snoring isn't that loud, but you can surely tell who's child she is. From what I've heard, this runs in Dean's family.
Two of my GF's enclosed today. I didn't release them, even though it was warm this morning. Connie's absolutely right about the temps here this morning. I was putting a small sheet of plastic across my big windows in the back. There is a line of bromeliads there that I wanted to protect from the temps I knew were coming today. I was sweating up a storm because I'd dressed for the coming chill. I headed to Connie's at about noon. Within just a few minutes of arriving there, we had to close up the shop where she was tinting because the cool wind was blowing in bigtime. By 12:30 it was COLD. Then it started misting rain. Just made it that much colder. I heard on the radio this morning that the temps dropped 30 degrees within an hour in San Antonio between 5 and 6 am. Our weather normally parallels with San Antonio. It's like it travels the 300 miles down Interstate 10 to land on my house. I usually use my Mom as my weather woman. HAHAHAHA She's notorious for letting us know what the weather is no matter her location (in San Antonio or in Virginia where she spends 6 months of the year).
I found 2 of the Monarchs at the top, not "Jing" (but at least they're thinking about it) when I got home this afternoon. I put some Lantana into the cage for the GF's to feed on. I've brought all of my milkweed plants into the house because I didn't want to take any chances that it would freeze since I still have 14 cats to feed. I also brought in half of my herb plants and covered the rest with a shower curtain tented by a bamboo pole.
Pepper, it's good to see you here in the BF forum. What kind of butterflies do you have there in Missouri? Do you have snow yet?
Oh what I wouldn't give to see some snow here in Southeast Texas. I wouldn't want to drive in it.... but to play in it. I've always wanted to make a snow angel. But I've never seen enough to do that.... at least that I know of. We had an ice storm here several years ago. The whole city practically shut down for several days because of power outages, etc. I don't want all that ice, but some snow would be lovely! And if the power would go out, I'd just go to Connie's house like we all did in the ice storm. She has a wood burning stove and we camped there for days. We all had kids and things were cramped, but we sure had lots of fun. I suppose it would be me and my girls and their kids now. Are you ready for us Connie? Got plenty of wood??? HAHAHAHAHA
Funny how one thing leads to another, to another....
Here's a better photo of JoJo. She ate her first piece of bread the other night. Hillary got out my camera and used a "whole roll of film" in a matter of 8 minutes. Good thing for digital! :-)
Well Ohhhhhhhhhhkayyyyyy
I must admit, I'm just as bad about "using up the film" whenever I start taking photos of the grandbabies.
These were taken the first night she stayed with me. I hadn't seen her sitting up or crawling yet. Yeah Yeah, I went a little crazy! Each photo was a MB so I made a collage out of them.
She's just a little dollbaby! Always a smile.
Wow that JoJo is very Photogenic! Will keep her Daddy in prayer Janet..
Here is Ben making a snowangel in New Jersey last December. This year we are staying home for a change, we have been going once or twice a year for years now. The only way to take a real vacation is by staying home...Besides I have too much going on in the garden to leave now.
