Fertilizing Allium and Mexican Hat

Does anybody here fertiize their Ornamental Onion plants and Mexican Hat Prairie Coneflower plants in the Fall? I transplanted these last spring and I have never fertilized them other than planting them with potting soil. If I am asking on the wrong forum, please let me know.
