CLOSED: What kind of bug?

Atmore, AL(Zone 8b)

I know this picture is blurry, but maybe one of you will know what it is. I found a patch of them hanging on the west side of my house. Maybe like they were absorbing the heat from the brick? I have seen them in the trees also. They make a buzzing sound when they are flying. They will come flying at me but I have never been bitten by one. They look like long horned beetles but I don't think they are supposed to be in the south. I did spray them with bug spray and when I did, I smelled an offensive odor. I'm assuming it was coming from the bugs.

Hi escambiaguy. It's not a beetle, it is a true bug. Leptoglossus genus, probably L. zonatus. Bad bug

Thanks Claypa, that's it! I guess this is a new insect I will have to get used to. Maybe all the ones that I sprayed died after falling to the ground. This is the first year that I have seen them and I have noticed that they are hanging out in my pear trees a lot.

Is that what we used to call an assasin bug?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Nope - This one is called a leaf-footed bug. Assassin bugs eat other insects. Leaf-footed bugs eat (suck) plants.
