Probably (but not definitely) var. atlantica, but could perhaps be var. libani (or even var. stenocoma, if anyone has planted any - but this variety is still very rare in cultivation).

It was introduced some time before that, at least 40-50 years ago, but only a very few major botanical gardens got it back then.
