I brought a gerbera daisy indoors after being out all summer. When watering the other day, I saw dozens of tiny bugs crawling in the soil. I have sprayed and sprayed but they continue to live. I also have been seeing some tiny flying bugs in the house and wondering if these are the adults of the ones crawling in the dirt. Does anyone know what these might be and how to get rid of them?
CLOSED: tiny flying bug
Sounds like fungus gnats. They generally appear when the soil is damp. Put some sand on top of your potting mix so that the top layer is dry...then water from the bottom. By keeping drier conditions around the surface of your mix, you should see a decrease in bugs....I'll have to warn you...I learned the hard way, and it took weeks to get rid of all of them after The Great Fungus Gnat Invasion of 1996. Seemed like they were everywhere for ages.
